name the last NC winner who hasn't had a #1 recruiting class within 4 years prior to the NC.

Exactly. The star system isn't perfect, but it's been a pretty solid indicator of who's been competing for and winning championships.

I give up.

Who was the last NC winner who hasn't had a #1 recruiting class within 4 years prior to the NC ?

The answer is ...

my first guess is 2006 Florida but I suspect they might have been # 1 in someone's recruiting rankings. In Rivals, they were 2, 15, 7 and 2.

the safest guess is Nebraska in 1997. not sure they ever had a # 1 ranked class

Thank you.

So apparently, in spite of what monte's kid would have his minions believe, a team can win championships on the field without mythical self awarded recruiting titles.

Yep, a #2 class is a lot different than a #1 class.

If it's not important, why do Gator fans brag about the rankings of their recruiting classes?

Wrong, again.

Keep trying.

Clever fact manipulation. To some, strong discipline on Hammond = bad guy for for taking his scholarship away.
To some, weak discipline on Hammond= Coach Meyer is too lenient. Pick one that works for you.

To most, extreme envy that another highly rated recruit wants to play for the Gators and Coach Meyer.

Reality is that we don't know how good the kid will be.

I do not brag but my guess is some do because a certain ex-vol/current sc coach convinced many that recruiting means more than actual game wins and his supporters ran/continue to run with it.

strange how starters don't get thier scholly pulled when they get a dui.

I was unaware that no starter had EVER had their scholarship pulled for a DUI.

Thanks for knowing all of the facts and history of UF and Coach Meyer while not being bitter that a highly ranked recruit left one of your many favorite schools.

I am waiting on Kiffin/USC to release a statement saying that Florida contacted Martin illegally and recruited another schools player.

I kid, I kid.

I don't know.

You proclaimed the facts in a lame attempt to prove your theory so you prove it.

give me an example.

as for martin. you are getting a handful.

I do not doubt that Martin is a handful. He may not prosper at UF. So why are "some" so stirred up and bitter ?

two words: carlos dunlap

Ceremoniously taking his scholarship away for a month after classes had ended would have really showed him. I guess they could have demanded retroactive payments for the classes he had already completed.

That makes a lot of sense.

Want to try again and impress ?

I'm not bragging about the rankings. I'm saying the class is stocked full of extremely talented athletes. Especially on defense.

But I guess I shouldn't be excited, because apparently, recruiting doesn't matter.........

Yeah, Carlos isn't the best example to use.

Imagine the crap we'd get from rival fans had Meyer pulled Dunlap's scholarship with one meaningless bowl game left in his career.....AFTER the semester ended.

so it's your belief that if dunlap had the dui before the season that meyer would have pulled his scholorship? just getting your opinion clear.

It is my belief that if the opponents had scored more points than the Gators in EVERY game, then the Gators would not have won a single game.

It is also my belief that if Carlos had received a DUI before the season, but ALSO had found a cure for cancer during the bye week before the georgia game, that he would have had his scholarship taken away but given back.

I also believe most head coaches have guidelines but decide punishments for bad behavior based on individual circumstances just like the rest of the world does.

To summarize, I have NO idea what Coach Meyer would have done.
