Chris Simms on Tennessee

I've heard rumors that Brett Favre might go to Tampa. That would be hilarious to see him take Simm's job...

I remember it. Referring to a visit to Tennessee(I think it was specifically the football team eating lunch), he didn't like that all the black guys sat together and all the white guys sat together. I think he gave another example, but again, it was something similiar to black guys hanging out with their friends who were black and the same for the white guys. He mentioned racial division on the team, although, when asked, a few current UT players at the time dismissed it as an excuse for him to back out on his commit. Said everyone got along just fine.

Yeah,
I remember this as the excuse he gave when he decided to go to the other UT. As it turns out he wasn't very good anyway. I think Casey Clausen was better.
What a jerk and loser!

Why are people ragging on this guy? He did what was best for himself.

I think the biggest issue was the fact that he commited to us early in 99 (after the NC), so UT didnt try to get any other QBs (the only other interested one I remember is Dorsey) then somewhere near right before the deadline, he changed his mind and went to Texas...leaving UT w/ no QB options as the others who were initially interested in UT had signed with other schools after that (i.e. Dorsey to Miami, etc.)...and then we ended up w/ Casey Clausen

Also career wise, people rag on Simms because he would choke big time in any major games w/ anything on the line (see OU-texas games he was in, & when they started him in 01 against a bad KSU, a win against whom would have sent them to the NC as we lost to LSU later that night)

If his father was not Phil Simms he would have been Applewhites back up for good. It was funny, Simms would be blowing the game and they would bring Major in and he would win it the next week Simms was still starting.

When I think of Chris Sims and the word divided...I think of how far the gap is from him and his ole man is in guts, toughness, and talent.

He showed plenty of guts and toughness when playing with a ruptured spleen. I'm not really sure how either of those are in question.

He's definitely lacking talent though. No doubt about that.

Sorry he hurt his spleen, but other than that he's invisible to me.

oh yeah, definitely: major won the games, simms lost em. Had they benched simms that season - or even just that big 12 championship game, they probably would have been playin miami for the NC that season...heck and applewhite probably would have made an nfl roster
