I heard the guys on sports talk yesterday afternoon talking about this kid. Hes listed at 6'6 285. They play him at DT/DE and WR. Apparently his 40 is a 4.7. Anychance he might get an offer from UT? Not sure what he is at as far as his academics go though. You would think he has to be on someones list though.

I doubt he's that fast.

He is listed as an OL and at 6' 5", 300lbs, with a 4.8 forty time on rivals. That 40 time can't be right, surely. He has offers from Memphis and MTSU.

On the team roster he is listed as DE/DT and WR. I was listening to sportstalk yesterday and they were saying this kid is a freak. If his speed is anywhere near whats listed then how does he not have any other offers? Is he just one of those under the radar players?

He plays at my alma mater. I'd say he's closer to 4.8 or so. he really can move for a big guy. still growing though it seems. he was around 270 last time i saw him.

If he was a freak I would think more schools, big or small, would have offered.

They have a machine that measures a kids impact and speed when he hits a sled or some part of the machine....called a maxx machine I believe, and he doubled all the other kids in speed and strength. He really is a physical freak, but I understand he didn't play since his freshman year because of grades. The coaches supposedly are really on him about grades. He will be one to keep an eye on this coming year. His offers will most likely really pick up this fall.

Sounds like he's someone UT should watch closely this fall:

The initial excitement from Smith’s Maxx machine numbers still hadn’t worn off when Orr recognized just how versatile and athletic the senior was on the field. During offseason workouts, Smith showed he had a knack for catching any pass thrown near him and the quickness to elude much smaller defenders. Throughout preseason passing league and scrimmages, Smith has played receiver, even making a diving catch in the end zone against Signal Mountain several weeks ago.

“He’s just got about as much God-given ability as any player I’ve ever coached,” said Orr, who also coached current Atlanta Falcons’ defensive end Chauncey Davis in high school. “I would compare Chris to Chauncey at this age."

He is a physical freak could dunk in 8 th grade. The grade issues are because he has territts syndome and adhd.He is a great yes sir no sir type of kid though. i coached him and shaquile love for 4 yrs in little leage.Had to carry their birth certificates everywhere we went. The 40 times are legit saw him tip a ball at the line of scrimmage then catch it in the air and run 80 yards the other way.No one come close to catching him. We use to have some titanic 1 on 1 with him and shaq.Dont know if either will play at tn.but both were great kids and loved coaching them.

If everything else that has been said about him is true, then I would have to think that the problem with his recruiting lies on the academics side of the equation. Tourette's syndrome (I assume that is what one poster was referring to) can be a problem socially, but usually that is not the case. ADHD can pose a more serious problem, but if the kid is willing to put in the work and wants it badly enough, UT's tutoring program should be able to handle that.

I suspect that UT wants to see how he is doing both on the field and in the classroom before deciding to make an offer. Going by several things Dooley has said, once he has a pretty solid class that meets our needs, he will more willing to take a few chances with kids that are academically marginal.

I hope we hear more about this kid -- interesting, to say the least.

it said in the times free-press article that he has not played football since his freshman year. until he proves it on the field he's nothing more than a workout warrior. i'll be rooting for him. he could potentially be a great player.

wow i watched this kid practice, he looks like a he could start on DL for Tennessee already. His frame he could add 20 or 30 pounds. They say he runs a 4.7 or 4.8 i believe it they tossed a fade to him he blew by the corner. This cat looks extremely impressive! Defiantly a D-1 player if his grades are good enough. If Tennessee watches him expect an offer.:good!:

I saw him at the HS jamboree last night. I'm betting he is #9. Soddy had a DE/DT (they played 3-4 and 4-3) that was #9 and looked like a men among boys. Drew a double team every play and still got a very nice push on the line. They lined him up at WR for at least 2 plays and threw to him one of those (ball batted down).

His frame looks like it could hold quite a bit more weight so physically DT at a D1 level is good projection. At his current weight now, he would probably create some very nice mismatches at the TE postion.

I hope he is able to get academics in line and go to a D1 school somewhere.
