If CBJ hadn't come to UT this year, he would have landed another big name job next month. Good chance he would have been high up on USC's list too.

He all but accepted the job at Colorado. Not exactly a big name job.

I thought he turned them down at the last minute to stay at Cincy? Kinda the same way Strong was a sure thing to be our next coach, but turned us down in the end.

Colorado is an even bigger rebuilding job than UT, but in a worse conference. He may have flirted with that job for more money at Cincy, but he was on the verge of taking them to a BCS bowl.

Tuberville has really hurt that team this year, IMO.

Peyton encouraged him to take it......... from what I heard.....

I think that Peyton thinks that Butch Gets it.

He didn't turn down Colorado. He had one foot out the door when Tennessee called, and he stopped in his tracks and turned south

I heard he was waiting for the Tennessee job to open. He said something about being tempted to tell Peyton Manning that he really wanted the Tennessee HC position.

He turned down Co after deeply considering because he was going for our job. Butch said that. Whitt Babcock, Cincy AD, was furious when he accepted the UT job. He wanted the UT job since he went to Neyland.

That's the story that I love. He kept holding out on Colorado and Purdue to make a run at the UT job. If he doesn't get the UT job last year, he'd have Cincinnati in the top 10 right now and he'd be the hottest coach on the market.

Exactly, he was planning to stay before Hart called him. I was a fan of Butch at the time.

How can you say that? He was supposedly almost hired at Colorado on 12/05 and then hired at Tennessee on 12/07.

Exactly when did he decide to stay at Cincinnati?

His initial press conference. He said no after the catering was done then accepted the job at Tennessee..

I bet CBJ thought to himself "I could do some damage at this place."

If we didn't offer him, he would be laying bricks in Colorado. Just the way the business works

He turned down the Colorado job before we contacted him. He had decided to stay at Cincinnati, but when we called, his AD gave him an ultimatum and he took the Tennessee job.
