cincy just iced the kicker without a time out

I suspect another bowl game initiated rule change is coming that would at least allow the kicking team to decline the penalty and take the result of the play. A team should never gain an advantage by committing a penalty.

Cut needs to calm down. I really doubt that was intentional.

IMO, they didn't do it to ice the kicker. Who in their right mind would make a difficult FG easier by giving up 5 yards? With that said, I think that should be a penalty that could be declined.

Agree. All defensive penalties should be a free play for the offense unless there's a safety issue.

It's all about the timing IMO... You wait till there isn't much time for the center to snap the ball... The refs count the players throw the flag nanoseconds before the center snaps while the kicker goes in full motion if he makes it you have a chance for him to miss one ... If he misses you lost your gamble... Cinci threw in all their chips and it paid off...

Still dirty IMO...

Why? It doesn't matter if it was intentional, it's still garbage. He should have the option to decline and take the result. I'd be pissed too.

I agree. The play should be allowed to go on. The defense shouldn't be rewarded for committing a penalty. But the rule is what it is.

I still don't buy that it was intentional.

They didn't do that to ice the kicker. It was a 54 yard attempt, no way they want to make that shorter. You take your chance from that distance.

That was an obvious reflection on CBJ's inability to coach, scheme, recruit, and get his team ready to play this game over the course of the year since they didn't have enough people on the field at first....just ask the Prattville guy in the other Cincy game thread. He's a bright guy.

Why would a team try to intentionally move a 53 yard kick up five yards? And apparently OP thinks the cheeseball "icing the kicker", which is not what happened here, is some sort of clever and novel idea.

Stand back, my head is exploding

Thanks for explaining the process.

So the kicker would be so emotionally taken aback by charity that he wouldn't be able to make the retry of course.
