It's a lot more complicated than that. You think the reason is that people naturally prefer a more nationalist and free market economic approach.
I think it's a reverberation caused by the increasing disparity in wealth between the top class and the middle class, and in particular the middle class coming to realize that the odds of advancing, no matter your talent or hard work, are slim.
I knew he served but didn’t realize he was highly decorated? Never saw that huh.
Wife was reading them off to me yesterday. "During his military service, Knotts was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (with 4 bronze service stars), Army Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge (with a Carbine BAR) and Honorable Service Lapel Pin." Now, if this is accurate or not is the question. Other accounts are that his military service was merely being a travelling comedian for the troops and saw no action. Who knows. The Drill Sarge thing was not true. However, he was a Marine either way you cut it.
I read the list. Not Audie Murphy level for sure. But he did his service as called upon and that’s all a nation can ask. He was indeed USA not USMC I did look that up.Not trying to discount his service but those ribbons are pretty much "hey I was there" awards. And if he was a jar head he wouldn't have gotten an Army "I was a good boy" medal.
