Well, like it or not, the transfer portal exists... so since it's there might as well use it... And Coach Caldwell is doing just that with great success. Besides her signees out of the portal so far, there are two more (rumored) targets... landing even one of the two would be another home run... landing them both would be a walk-off first recruiting season win for our new Coach... (all the diamond ball references are a shout out to Vols baseball and LV's Softball... It's good to be a Tennessee fan right now...)
BTW... on another thread I mentioned reading Pat's last book... Sum It Up. So I took my own advice and read it again... so much insight. I believe Pat would truly love Kim Caldwell...

I loved the look in her eyes that she sent John Adams with his lame question.

If Coach Kim can recruit the HS ranks as well as she has done the portal, and I'm betting she can, then we can count on having good depth and well developed players. Just look at the current status of the TN sports programs overall this season, competing for SEC and national titles in multiple sports, both men's and women's. You can bet Kim wants to join the party.

And yet, many members of this board have since challenged the merits of the Kim Caldwell "System;" that overblown encounter having been critiqued throughout several threads, and at least one youtube channel. To their credit, a few have acknowledged their personal dislike of John Adams, some of them, even applauding the Staff for "preparing" Coach Kim for that hated, anti-vol media monster. So, I suppose it's morally proper, or at least self-satisfying, to cheer on the Caldwell stare-down, especially since, after all, it IS John Adams. Of course, bias most often plays it's role in such matters, prompting the question of one's point of reference - an admittedly rhetorical question, to be sure.

This is only about you, VOLPAT, to the extent that your post recalls the self-satisfied applause of seeing Adams put in his place, only to watch some of those same happy clappers immediately turn to listing the many reasons why it - The Caldwell System - most-probably will not work, which was the main concern Adams noted is suggesting the potential need of some tweaking in the press conference.

Cheers.

Geez, stop the bickering already. What "many members of this board" may or may not have done only lives on today predominately in the posts of people like you who refuse to stop regurgitating their "self-satisfied" versions of it.

And please know that "the main concern [of] Adams" was to elicit some quotes he could use to undermine our new coach. And that he could trot out again in the future at any moment he thought he could make a snark or rile up fans to the detriment of our program. That you take it upon yourself to deride LV fans who cheered our coach at her introduction is (in your words) "bias... play[ing] it's role in such matters."

You're really to go so far as to champion Adams' failed attempt at trolling as a backdoor way to criticize an LV fan who "loved the look in CKC's eyes... at that lame question"? Really? And that, with all sorts of pretense, naiveté, oily moralizing?

Do you really think that CKC (who knows a million times more about basketball than the troll Adams) didn't know and had not already discussed with DW (who comes from a basketball family and also knows much more about basketball than Adams) the kinds of adaptations that would be necessary -- and also exciting -- to implement? She is not dumb. She doesn't need advice from Adams. It's not some incredible insight that some things will be different. She understood the question and it's implication better than you do.

You're prolly a good person and fan in general. But see the lengths that trying to clap back at some general stereotype is driving you to? Let's just move on.

And don't @ me. I'll take this down when I know you've read it so as not to unnecessarily embarrass you. It's nothing personal. Or as you say and therefore I'm sure you appreciate:

"This is only about you, krichunaka, to the extent that your post recalls..."

House Of Orange podcast talked about a Texas A&M player possibly being added from the portal.

You shouldn't take it down. You've stated your case, so let it lie. Moving on is your prerogative, of course.

Of utmost importantce: My apologies to anyone whom I've ever derided, and I am especially sorry to you, VOLPAT. I never intended to hurt your feelings.

Orange, I'm not sure that I understand your "don't @ me." Is that your way of telling me to not respond? On a message board? If that's the case, please note that I've taken your demand under advisement, and, just ignore anything that follows.

I started a thread in April about this particular press conference episode, because I was struck by the apparent enjoyment of some, in seeing our new coach put John Adams in his proper place for brazenly asking Coach Caldwell if she might see the need to do a bit of systemic tweaking. Well, her glaring response is now etched in the minds of basketball fans worldwide. Regardless, there have been numerous subsequent posts in numerous other threads that have called Coach Caldwell's system into question. The irony here - praising the glare, while proceeding to challenge the efficacy of the Caldwell System - should be obvious enough, no matter the bias, of which is readily apparent in the above post. And, calling Adams a troll is of no benefit to anyone, and in particular, the person who presumes itself the adult in the room. From personal experience, someone who resorts to name calling and condescension is lacking the pure requisites for true debate. But, debate was hardly the intent here. Rather, it was little more than venomous spewing. After sixteen-thousand-plus posts, I would expect much better.

Cheers.

A little background for those who might have missed it! There was a back story behind Kim’s response to Adams question we are talking about. After rumors surfaced about Kim, Adams had penned a “cute” story about how ridiculous hiring an unproven inexperienced coach would be and he completely discounted its validity. But it did come to pass and at the press conference Kim was ready for him! His earlier article highly critical of Kim was fresh on her mind and I'm sure Adams was pointed out to her in advance! And she put him in his place and simply moved on! When it happened I clapped my hands and said atta way to go Coach!
