No one really knows what the 247composite is made up of because it does not always jive with the averaged Scout, Rivals, ESPN and their own rankings.
On a separate note, Desmond Henderson should have a 4 star VN score FWIW. Use the MAX function in Excel to find the highest number in its range![]()
The 247 composite is crap IMO. Like you said it doesn't always jive with the other rankings. In the hoops forum we found several instances where players were 3* in every service with a 4* composite. Because the sites use different scoring systems it's very difficult to create an actual composite. Especially when some players don't have as detailed rankings as others.
247 uses the composite in hopes that people will skip all the other sites and just use their site.
Personally, I skip 247 all together. (Unless they rank our player higher than everyone else, in which case I go by their ranking)
There was a year where a QB for Florida was ranked a 4 star on every site but a composite 5 star. Weird.
Their formula is garbage.
It's just there to help drive up visits to their site. Their hope is that recruiting junkies will defer to their composite as a "one stop shop" for recruiting rankings.
I've seen too many times when the rating didn't jive. Also, I know they can't stay up to date with the ranking updates from all the sites.
It also bugs me that they defer to the composite instead of their own rating.
