Randy Sanders said that next season Clausen will be in the mix for the no. 1 qb spot even with ainge coming back and if schaffer decides to stay. Just onderin what you guys thought about this. I for one have really liked clausen but i am anxious to see ainge back in the huddle. but if ainge is struggling, i'd love to see clausen or scahffer come in. think about the 3 headed qb monster that the vols will have next season. i know that crompton is prolly coming too. but he'll be too young to play.

Well, I thought that this would be the case. I think that Ricks arm strength and the touch on the long balls would have to improve some. This is something that Ainge already has. I am like you, I am anxious for Ainge to get back in. I think that Rick deserves a shot though. He has been very cooperative in his position on the team and has proved that he can win ball games. But I think against the bigger and faster defenses like Auburn, Clausen could struggle some.

I'm for putting in ANYBODY that will give us a chance to win. If Clausen can beat Bama better than Ainge, use Clausen. If Ainge can beat Georgia better than Schaeffer, by all means use Ainge. JUST WIN BABY!!

I think we should stick with Ainge. I mean next season will be Clausen's last year, if we wait until he leaves by the time Ainge playes again he'll be a Junior. I think Ainge has too much talent to sit on the bench.

It COULD be argued that Rick 's Cotton Bowl performance was his moment in the sun and now it's time to develop the younger guys. Man,it's a GREAT problem to have isn't it? Instead of worrying about where we're gonna get a QB, we're worrying about which QB to use.

Based on yesterday, Clausen is the starter until someone proves he can play more efficiently, smarter and better. Arm strength and popularity are not the #1 credentials to winning games. Rick looked great yesterday. He must be #1 going into spring ball, Ainge must be #2 and a distant #3 would be Schaeffer.

Not taking anything away from Clausen, he's great and I'm proud of him for leading the Vols to victory, but the A&M pass defense was very poor, and he has had no other good passing performances to speak of. We will have to see how he does in spring training, during full scrimmages. I think all Ainge has to do is up his mobility a little bit, learn the offensive schemes and he will be better than Rick.

I think Schaeffer is out of the question. He'd perform well in an option offense if he was able to keep his head. This ain't high school; You won't be able to elude all the tacklers this time around.

I think that Clausen did well but I also think Ainge will be back and better next year. But if we keep all 3 QB's, can you say unbeatable?

Hey milo, I don't think you quite understand what clausen was having to do. The noise was insane, I could not hear a thing, the aggie fans were so loud. Clausen and the rest of the team weren't flustered. You would've thought that the noise would've messed up the audibles, but the communication between clausen and the wide receivers was great.

I couldn't estimate the volume of the crowd by the tv broadcast... I had the tv on mute. Some friends were over... We were watching, but talking, also. I did notice that there were a bajillion Aggie fans and like 20 Vol fans. I exaggerate, of course, but you get my point. Props to Clausen for getting through that.

The section looked absolutely tiny... Like a little group right next to the band, and the rest of the stadium was a sea of dark red for the first half. The sea was drained after the half, though.

How many Vol fans DID make it to the game?

15,000 - 18,000 max. The aggies were telling us to go back to graceland, etc. etc.

yep

the noise was amazing though. The yell leaders and the cheers were freaking me out. Anytime you have 60,000 fans bending over with their hands on their knees yelling A-G-G-I-E-S it scared you. :D

You should have told them that if the Alamo had been in Tennessee, we would have won.

In the 3rd quarter, one lady stood up and yelled "You're on National TV" and another aggie fan yelled "Probably not anymore" I got a nice chuckle out of it.

Clausen in my mind is #1 as of now, Ainge #2 and Shaffer #3 but who knows how they will look come spring?

NOW HOLD IT, HOLD IT, HOLD IT!

I know we just won a bowl game and that we're all a little shocked by the score. I know that Clausen looked good -- both in performance and on paper. And, I know that he's been a class-act in preparing and waiting until he got his turn to lead the Vol "O."

BUT. . . .

Do not forget the talent that we have kept sitting in recovery for the past half of the season. Ainge is supposed to be our "Second Coming of the Holy TD-record King" and Schaeffer has been compared to Mike Vick. NOT TO MENTION our child-prodigy from the land of "Ghosttown in the Sky."

Rick really stepped up and did a great job for us. Hats off. Name a street after him. Whatever we need to do to say "thanks." But Fall '05 starts a quest for greatness with expectations in Vol Country for no less than an SEC championship and a BCS berth.

When I imagine that ship of dreams, I just don't see Clausen at the helm.

Yeah, I think a lot of this Clausen talk is bowl euphoria - chances are that if Ainge can get the strength back in his shoulder, he'll be the guy.

It is pretty amazing though that in the 4 games where we started a 3rd string QB, we averaged over 35 ppg. Granted we only played one team with a quality defense, but we still scored more on Auburn than anybody else did all year. As much as everybody loves Ainge's arm and Schaeffers' legs, there's something to be said for having a QB who knows and operates within the offense.

I dunno. Ainge is the man as far as getting the ball downfield. But I think he is having problems hitting the little 10 yard dump routes.

BS seems to want to tuck and run a lot. Yes he picks up some yards. But he could do more if he looked to pass downfield.

Id say Clausen is the perfect balance between the 2. Being a Clausen, there is no chance he will run. But, he doesnt have the arm strength that Ainge has.

Id say RC could be a very effective QB. He has a simple outlook on his job: get the ball into the playmakers hands. Just like that 15 yard pass to CJ Fayton the other day. FAYTON is the one who turned it into a 57 yard TD. RC just got him the ball.

Bri I'm with you. RC at this point has more football smarts than the younger guys. Smarts, knowlege of the playbook, reads, checks and getting the ball to the play makers means a lot more than just being able to chunk the ball 65 yards flat footed. Based on BS' showing in the USC game, I'm definitely not going to overlook him either. This is a very good problem to have.

Everybody knows you're right, GAVol, but I am really happy for Rick's sake that he did so well. The Vol universe will fall back in love with Erik AInge as soon as they see him throw one of those glorious passes.

Well, I talked to Ainge today at school and he said his idea of who will be the starter next season is as good as anybody else's, basically. Whoever looks the best in offseason training will get the nod.
