Clausen: Round 9402048201934492.5

I was really thinking of posting that JoeT3 is the Rick Clausen of 2006. He will tear UGA apart. Richt should just bench him now and let Stafford and Cox play.

This is an old topic, but I still contend Clausen was the better choice last year. He outplayed Ainge every step of the way in spring and fall, and was our only hope of running some semblance of a total offense.

The great-playing Ainge of this year should not be confused with the untaught and unlearned shadow of a QB that he was in 2005.

It's high time that people -- not you, but general sentiment -- start equating Ainge's development to being TAUGHT how to play by Cutty, and not some vague, cliche'-type notion that "he learned a lot through his trials" or that "he is so much more focused now" or some other fluff factor.

Sanders did not TEACH him how to play; he suffered for it. Ainge looked nervous and scared and all of that because he didn't understand what he was supposed to do.

Now he does.

P.S. That was NOT directed toward you Vol Hillbilly. Just a remark.

then to what do you attribute his success in 2004?

then to what do you attribute his success in 2004?

For one thing, they didn't ask him to do very much. What did they run, like 4 or 5 pass plays most of the year? That was a good move, actually.

For another, I think his "success" must viewed in the context of his being a true freshman at the time. If we look back at his whole body of work his freshman year, I'd say he was a very mediocre QB. But for a frosh, he played pretty well.

Aside from the 4th qtr against FL, a couple of throws against GA on busted coverage, he played pretty poorly after that in my view. But again, when I say that I would contradict myself if I look at it in terms of his understanding to that point; in which case he played well.

You can't possibly say that this is just due to his own "natural maturity?"

Don't get me wrong, Rick is a smart ball player but like Joe T , his arm is not Div.I material

...which is why they would both, probably, be good coaches. A lot of times, the best coaches weren't the best players. They were the players who best understood the game. Both of these guys fall into that category. Which is why, if they have a good coach in the making, they should hang on to him, regardless of what people who don't know him think of his attitude. I don't think anyone was hyping him for the Heisman, but he was a pretty damn good team guy.

I think Chaisson is the only uncommitted dual threat QB in the 2007 class who has UT on his radar.

Eric Berry is going to get a "look" at QB. He will never end up as a full-time QB though. That is obvious. And, actually UT is the leader for a dual-threat QB from Florida. He is rated higher than Chiasson. His name is slipping my mind right now. You can find him on rivals.

Never questioned his attitude, just that Joe T reminded me of RC, I think he will make a great coach someday.

While we are still on the QB subject. One question.

Jim Bob Cooter graduated last year, right? I could have sworn I saw Cooter on the side lines talkin' to Trooper at the UGA game. Someone, tell me I'm not crazy.

Jesus!

Now if we could only convince Cut to let him throw the ball atleast once.

I just want to see Cooter on the field, damn it.

Edit: Thanks for the response.

I saw Jim Bob on the sideline at the Memphis game. However, I am becoming suicidal that there are 12 pages in a Jimmy Clausen thread.:scare:
