And there was 7 seconds on the clock and the second you go down or the whistle blows, clock auto stops (first down) and you have a timeout.... Running the ball to get 4-8 yards doesn't take a full 7 seconds.

They were about 10yds out of field goal range, I think. Even with a 5-6yd run, you're still not there.

I think that's why they passed but I'm not 100%. They only had time for 1 play and needed more than they thought they could get running.
