Clemson and Ole Miss recruiting

Clemson has the best QB in CFB and have more talent everywhere but D-Line. Clemson played really good against Bama last year...I say Clemson by 10 on the road

I will agree - Auburns QB and overall offensive play looked terrible in their Spring game

I almost brought up Danny Ford and his Clemson teams. Figured, why confuse the masses even more.

Danny Ford was a rank amateur in comparison to the cheating Charley Pell did while he was at Clemson. Pell took it to a level surpassed only by SMU.

Of course, it goes without mentioning that both Ford and Pell were Alabama grads and disciples of Paul Bryant.

Then we would be talking payments.

Dabo is just a great recruiter regardless if folks around here want to give him his due. If he does indeed replace Saban I see Bama staying competitive for awhile cause the talent will continue to roll in.

As far as we know.

Dabo get's the 5* difference makers that can make a talented roster truly elite. Dabo at Bama is not a slam dunk even if that is his ultimate goal. That style is not in Alabama's DNA. The topic will turn into a brush fire should his coaching credentials ever come up.

and further Knoxville doesn't just have the Strip as its "scene". Downtown/market square and old city are happening places for the size of town Knoxville is.

Yes, but the Strip is supposed to be the college students scene and it's becoming a ghetto quickly. I went downtown less than a handful of times in my 4 yrs in Knoxville because there was no need to; I had everything within walking distance. Plus, I didn't really fit in drinking/eating amongst the adult attorneys and bankers getting off work down there.

in the old city?

couldn't stand the strip myself with all the frat boys and jock straps.

again I have to ask when the decline of the strip started in your opinion? Its been under major construction and as I have understood it a lot of businesses have shuttered simply to wait out the changes or have been bought out by what will be there. imo the current state is growing pains and not a decline

I graduated in 2007 and just about every building on the Strip had something in it. I'd say around 2011-12 is when I noticed things starting to close up. Hannah's closed, RT's/New Amsterdam closed, Chili's has been 12 different things, Tin-Roof is closed, Hound Dogs and the bookstore by the railroad tracks are gone, OCI had closed at one time and then reopened under new ownership. My sister in law and her husband were a couple years ahead of me in school and they constantly comment on how terrible it looks every time they make it back over there, which is 1-2x a year. I'm there every weekend in the fall so I've gotten used to it. Cool Beans is bout the only thing still going strong.

And people can't wait for Saban to retire at Bama, lol. Dabo already has his bags packed.

Gonna be hating that guy for the next 25 years.

You think he's going to be coaching when he's 71?

One man's embarrassment is another man's path to the playoffs. Winning is what matters not pride about having the toughest schedule.

If you played in the MAC and won would you really feel that good? ACC is weak.

Sagarin ranked the SEC east as the worst division in the power 5 conferences.

#6 - ACC Coastal
#9 - SEC East

In the last two seasons, the SEC East has gone 5-7 against the ACC. 1-7 in late-season rivalry games.

I haven't been to Clemson, so I can't comment on theirs, but our Strip is ever changing. In the early to mid 80's it was fluid but happening. (Tap room, next to OCI, was a quick place to grab a cold beer, George worked his butt off at the Roman Room and we all had to go to Smokey Mountain Market for a Rooster and have Rocky "drag it thru the garden". Off the strip as far as I knew was just Brother Jack's for a late night{early morning} Pig Burger... Make mine a screamer with some bread and moonshine to get it down.)
I know the Strip is really changing now (hopefully for the better), and I may drive or walk down it. When in town, I usually hang out around Market Square, as I've gotten OLDER..... plus I already have a date.

What's funny is no one complained about the weakness of the ACC 20 years ago when it was a 9 team conference. Or the Big East when Miami was running roughshod over everyone in the early 2000's.

Yes, and they brought some teams in recently that has had some historical success. With the recent coaching hires, it's a strong indication they are getting a lot more serious about their football investment. In the arms race, a lot of these teams sit squarely in the southeast. So plenty of ammunition within reach.

If only Miami had played in the SEC from 2000-2002...

Even when I was at UT (late 80s early 90's) I thought the strip was a $$$$ hole. I saw so much f'd up stuff there. Student hit by a car, guy thrown grew a window at a bar by a UT FB player, saw a dude beat some guys $$$ and it stopped traffic he then took the guys keys and took each key off the key ring and threw them in diff directions. It was just always a damn debacle, also saw a guy about beaten to death in the parking lot behind O Charlie's. Last time I was there it seemed to have been cleaned up a little.
