If Clemson wins, does this take Bama out of the playoffs? Supposedly SMU will not be penalized if they loose the ACC.

The committee has said it won’t penalize teams for playing in their championship game. Wonder if this will hold true, even with a blowout?

SMU will not be in playoffs once they lose. Why wouldn’t they? Teams have been eliminated from BCS and playoffs for losing their conference championship in the past. Georgia lost to bama last year and was eliminated from playoffs.

You’re comparing apples to oranges (4 teams vs 12 teams). If SMU is left out the ACC will go nuts and it opens the door for Power 4 teams to opt out of playing in championship games so they don’t drop out of the top 12 in the future.

It would be in SMU’s best interest in the 2nd half to make this a more competitive game.

SMU should not make the playoffs if they get blown out. This Clemson team isn't even good. They benefitted from a soft schedule. Alabama deserves to be in over them cause if you gave them Alabama's schedule they'd be lucky to go 6-6.

The sound-bite from Manuel was that teams that don't play won't get moved around other teams that didn't play. That, in no way, means that these CG games won't count in the rankings. Texas will fall below Notre Dame (a team that didn't play). Arizona State will likely move up a good bit over the 3-loss SEC teams; granted, if Clemson wins, ASU will get a bye, the question will be whether they're ahead of Boise or not (3-versus-4). If SMU gets clobbered by Clemson (as-is), it's going to be a hard sale that SMU should be ranked ahead of South Carolina, since USC just beat Clemson in Death Valley... And Bama was firmly ahead of South Carolina.

SMU needs to make it close to have any chance of knocking Bama out. Bama is more likely to be in than out at this point.

Swinney has got the horseshoe up his rear end right now.
They’re only playing tonight because Miami lost last week.
They’re one of the last games before the selection.
SMU is awful. Haven’t seen them play this year, but there are high school teams in SC who could give them a run.
I would not be surprised if Clemson got in with a win, SMU staying in because this would only be their second loss, and Bama getting in because of who they are.
SCjr deserves it more than any of them

All three can’t be in. I think Bama is out.
