Cleveland St. upsetting #7 Vandy

A legitimate top 10 team beats Cleveland State at home despite having an off night.

There have been some recent National Champions that have dropped regular season games to teams that they should have beaten by forty.

Find me a national champion that didn't just lose but get their asses kicked by a team in the Horizon or a similar conference.

Nope. Entire seasons are defined by games in November.

Exactly. Getting hammered at home by a mediocre mid-major team should actually inspire a lot of confidence in the Vandy faithful. After all, with all these new players that are trying to gel together for Vandy, I'm sure it's taking a while to get everything going....oh wait, they returned every single player.

That's excellent research. I still don't think they're comparable though.

I have no idea whether Vandy will be good this year; I do think it is hard to judge in college basketball from one game. Too many good teams have had nights where they cannot find the bottom of the net against terrible teams (KU has a tendency to do this in the tournament).

I agree with that. I mean, if Vandy had some record of being really good with this current group, you could write it off as a bad night. But, all they've shown is to be a weak, finesse team that loses every single year in the 1st round. Kansas, North Carolina, etc. aren't even close to being like that.

I'm sure they're decent. But, the #7 team in the country shouldn't be getting their asses handed to them by a Horizon League squad other than possibly Butler.

Not this year, I don't think. If anyone I'd pick Detroit to do something like this considering they brought back everyone from last year's team and have one of the deepest mid-major squads.

Cleveland State's a good Horizon squad, but...wow. I'd file this under "embarrassing".

Is this roughly comparable to Kansas losing to us after we kicked off so many guys?

I'd bet Cleveland St had more talent and experience than that group did easily, what with 4 seniors and all.

Cleveland State is about to take down #7 Vandy in Nashville. 60-48 with 3 and 1/2 to go.
The local media pointed a key injury to Vandy (don't know name, don't care to know) but to be blown out. Vandy had the big head a bit I think.

Tennessee beat #1 Kansas at home without 2-3 of our best players. So no one should talk about Ezeli (sp) being out as the reason Vandy lost. It's not unheard of for a top 10 team beating a Horizon league squad without their best player. Is Ezeli even their best player anyway?

Vandy is a top 25 team. Top 10 had them very overrated. This will likely help them as the season goes on, but it is an embarrassing loss just the same.
