Cliff notes for assistant coaches hiring

Fans need to be realistic. If CBJ has had a guy working with him for 6 years, the chance he is going to fire that man to replace him with a guy he has just met and knows nothing about is just silly. "We the fans know what's best", just does not cut it. When a new coach is hired, he has to be allowed to make ALL decisions when it comes to staff. Pittman did a solid job. IMO, with the talent we had on the OL, the run blocking was suspect at best. If Jones thinks his guy from UC is a better fit, gotta roll with it.

I understand Pittman and McKeefery and very good, but CBJ has his guys, and they are good, his S&C guy has been with him his whole 6 years and is regarded as a very good S&C coach.

Their OL Coach, just some things from UC Website: Offensively in 2011, UC averaged 385 yards per game, ranking No. 2 in the BIG EAST in rushing offense (178.5 ypg) and scored an average of 33.3 points per game on the way to a BIG EAST Conference Championship and a win in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl over SEC foe Vanderbilt..AND...

As a unit, the CMU offensive line allowed just 1.57 sacks per game in 2007, the third fewest in the MAC. CMU tied for first in the MAC with an average of just one sack allowed in seven conference games. The Chippewas posted a stretch of four straight games without a sack allowed midway through the season and allowed one sack or fewer in five of the final six regular season games

Guys, a HC bringing in a new system with specifics regarding OL technique, speed, etc. isn't going to keep an OL coach that isn't familiar with the system, much less one that didn't coach an OL in a spread O using the Qb's arm and legs.

Pittman was solid for us. No doubt. But we can't spend time training an OL coach, who then has to teach the players. That's just now how it works.

Honestly...the staff could be anyone. You look at CBJ wiki and there really is not much in terms of ties to other coaches. The lone one that sticks out is Rich Rodriguez where Jones was the WR coach for two seasons (2005 at 11-1 and 2006 at 11-2).

I know he mentioned in the presser about the coaching profession is a close group and they do talk among themselves. He may just call some of his friends in that field and ask? Who really knows.

We need coaches that understand what it takes to win in this league!! La tech and cincy type players will not win day in and day out in this league!!! and I am not a star guy but our roster can not be full of 1,2 and 3 stars and compete with the big boys!! Some may be happy with 7 and 8 wins a year but I am not one of them!! You get a staff that can teach and recruit the best players and I don't care if he's a big name or been with him 10 years!!

Thanks Mods, and since we have the sticky thread for just info we can use this thread to discuss the info so that we don't have people cluttering that thread with comments like we did, until the mods would clean them, with the Gruden and Coaching search cliff notes threads.

It's one thing to bring a coach from a school a step above a mid major, it's quite another for his entire staff with no recruiting roots to come with him. May as well cancel this years recruiting class if Jones brings his entire staff.

He's familiar with Brian Kelly, Pat Narduzzi, Mark Dantonio, yeah he doesn't know coaches.....

Good lord a bunch of people either have no idea what a Cliff Notes thread is for, or they are just disrespectful of other posters.

Can you wait and see what actually happens first before you think you can just throw away a recruiting class. I think we end up with Vonn Bell, Jalen Ramsey, Asanti Woulard, and im hoping Derek Green and Marquez North too. Absolutely not a waste of a class.

Its so annoying VolNation cant just relax and let our coach do his thing, if it doesnt work then come out and bash him but dammit, this is getting rediculous,
