That's correct. 0bama doesn't even know what he was saying. Did a press conference about executive orders, but had to turn to his help during the speech asking what the EO were. Dude is so clueless

he's going to close it with no plan for what exactly he's doing with the detainees

It's a start. I don't agree with his reasons, but closing Gitmo is a move in the right direction.

My younger brother was stationed at Gitmo for a year, I believe around 2003-2004(he was a MP at the time). He doesn't really talk about his time at that cesspool these days. A few vague references is all you will get out of him. According to him, that place is hell on earth for all people that reside there.

I don't pretend for one moment to have a solution to this problem but it needs to be shut down.

I can't imagine treating people inhumanly can be easy on anyone.

Especially when you are ordered to do so by your superiors in a military setting.

He is a happily married guy with a beautiful family these days. His son, my nephew, turns two in a month and it will be great to see them for that.

When people say things like "torture them and then put a bullet in their head!". I don't think they realize that real people have to live with that. The job of soldiers is already difficult enough (as seen by suicide rates). Why make it worse?

Agreed. Like I posted he doesn't talk about his time there with me or anyone else as far as I know and I haven't approached him about this subject in the last ten years. But I'm sure he saw some pretty ****ed up ****.

He agrees we should close it down and that is a good enough reason for me.

Already one of them is complaining and will probably file suit that his guards were female. Oh the horror. Probably get a huge payout on his way back to his buddies at the bomb factories in Syria.
