This VFL is predicting that Clowney has a mediocre season, and reason is simple. If he is as good as so many say, than the opposing coaches wil obviously run their offenses away from him and diminish his stats. He will be out of Heisman hype by Cocks game vs Mizzou, as CBJ and others will not be beat by one defensive player.

He's for real IMO. And the rest of that D-line is good enough to keep the blocking schemes honest.

I think he'll coast and try to preserve his body for when he gets paid. He doesn't want to get a Lattimore type injury and put that in question. There will be games where he shows up, but I predict he'll take some plays off.

He's a competitor and I wouldn't expect him to coast. He knows all eyes are on him and if he has any drive, he will go hard each and every snap.

Trust me, the opposing coaches have been trying to stop him for a couple of years now. His abilities didn't just magically appear with the Michigan hit.

Agree he is the real deal and would expect him to have a year similar to last year's.

I believe the young man will make hay while the sun shines. Look for an offensive blocking mistake to make another season defining highlight hit.

Disagree. The guy is far too talented and I think he has too much pride to lay down or have a bad season. Freakish size, speed, strength and athleticism. He'll have a huge year.

I think ole doo doo brown will do what is expected this season. He's a man among boys out there ( cept our boy Tiny) however when he gets to the NFL, they're all big boys and will enjoy welcoming him to the league IMO

Looking at the NC vs USC game tonight, it looks like you are absolutely correct. Clowney looks out of shape, great talent on the plays where he turns it loose. But he looks like he gets tired and maybe needs fluids given the hamstring tightness.

In all honesty, I thought he looked pretty average last night. Kinda suprised to see him take plays off completely. Look, I know it was hot, I know the guy was amped up, and I understand him getting winded and maybe even have a stomach issue, but.....

Also understand, he's been hyped up to be a Titan of an athlete and ESPN hasnt done him any favors with their "Beast" regurgitation spree.

I think he's a great player and will likely have a stellar season provided he's not injured down the road.

As for last night, well, he'd have a tough time with some of your boys, and some of our boys for sure. Especially if it was a noon start at Kyle.

This type of debate is the result of 24 hour coverage whereas story lines have to be created to fill time. Is the hype over the top, yes. Is he a great player, yes. Every d-lineman takes plays off. How many other d-lineman have the camera on them every play?

I'm just saying that last night Clowney looked like Teo in the NCG.

That may sound bold but like Teo, Clowney has been ear marked by the media and IMO wilted under the lights a little bit.

From the time he knocked that guy's helmet off in the bowl game, till pre-game yesterday, Clowney was built to be as impactful as some of the baddest stuff in Revelations. Instead, he was sucking air on the sidelines, and clearly taking several plays off.

Ridiculous...............the guy is a "once in a decade" type of player

So after his sub par performance last week on National TV along with being drubbed by Kirk Herbstreet for being lazy last year, you sure you wanna stick to your hype?

When he is in the top 5 of players drafted in the NFL this year, I'll still be very comfortable with his hype. The guy is a machine and one of the best defensive players college football has seen in the last two decades. So yes, stick sticking to the warranted hype. I find it funny that you also take Herbstreets comments as gospel when I am sure you would be one of the first to call him an idiot when he picks another team over UT.

It's far more likely that you'll be the one back-pedaling. Clowney is a beast. 1 game doesn't change my mind.

If he played for UT, the OP would be saying Clowney was the second coming of Reggie White

It's a shame there's not a stat for Percentage of the Field Eliminated by a DE. That, in and of itself, says a lot about Clowney's ability.

I teach my above-average-sized 9-year-old (who also plays DE) that, if they're running away from you, you're doing your job. If the only thing he does is make the field smaller, he is helping his team.

Yep, it's like saying a shutdown corner isn't any good because he never gets thrown on, so no stats.

It wouldn't surprise me if all the coverage this week has pissed him off, and he comes out with something to prove against UGA. Their LT looked like hot garbage against Clemson, so he might be in for a big night.

ESPN HEADLINE TODAY:
Jadeveon Clowney expressed frustration over his role in South Carolina struggling defense following Saturday's loss to Georgia, hinting that the Gamecocks' coaches should find more creative ways to use him.

He's a 3rd rounder already after just two games. Ha!
