Yesterday i recorded the Vols men.
I watched the game in disbelief as i watched vandy erase a 14 point deficit to bring the ballgame down to:
2 minutes, 50-49 (one point lead) for UT

I purposely put the game on hold, and verbally said, "This is where a coach proves themself as a coach".

Blowouts are because the coach did their job at practice. reverse blowouts are because coaches didn't do their job in practice. But in a game,,, it is the coach's task to become so obsolete, that coaching during a game, never plays into the outcome... until you get to a situation like this...

Coach Rick Barnes proved who the better coach was from that point on. Although the Vandy coach stayed within a possession or two and even had a shot to win it at the end... Barnes coached a win.

it is said, "coaches lose games and players win games"... unless it is like this situation. All the talent in the world can lose a game if the game-plan is lacking.

HW has had several chances to do what RB did this season. And failed often.

This is why I am down on her and why I will stay down on her. HW was dealt a much better hand than RB had, yet he won the "pot" and she folded. (so far)

Thoughtful, well stated post, Coach. Agree 100%.

There has been much rancor by a select few posters in the men's BB forum threads. I have found their dissent to be hugely unwarranted. A HC that can build something competitive from a roster obviously so lacking (no PG, no C, a team full of wings, injuries to starters, starting freshmen, etc.); is simply outstanding. The future is so bright for the men's program. CRB knows basketball.

Conversely, the opposite has happened with the LV's. The inability to build a successful team out of the talent on that roster is very concerning. All season it seems CHW wants to fit square pegs into round holes, while not adjusting her system to the roster that she recruited. Mind blowing.

add to the pot, that the arguably best player is watching the game in NY, Kevin Punter, and you really have a concept of what RB has done for the men's team.

Could HW do this with DD not playing?

Yeah, a coaching moment that worked our way...this time, but what about the other times. I like Coach Barnes, but unless we get some height and width at center and post positions, we'll only have a few moments like this, instead of championships, at any level. That being said...BEAT LSU!!!!!!!!!!:)

PS. Why bring Holly into this anyway?

GO BIG ORANGE!

imagine if Rick Barnes had a parallel men's roster to HW's... 7 AA's... ranked #4 in the country from the gitgo... Imagine if RB had such a team and did the job he's doing... I have no doubt that we'd be top ten in the country right now with such a start... AS HW should be.

He is doing with a true rebuilding team...what HW hasn't proved she could do with a built team...Now, imagine HW's future as the 7AA's leave and are replaced by 7 BB's.... This is why I bring HW into the picture... A better roster, higher ranking, much better sum of the parts... yet he overachieves, while she underachieves.

Yeah, I really get it but it just seemed to be another avenue to bash Holly. Guess, I'm just getting tired of it is all.
I still think it's a bit of a stretch to say that Coach Barnes overachieved though. Yeah, we're in our third game of the SECC, which is basically a run that Auburn made last year. Trust me, I'm enjoying this as much as anyone, and this team has gone further than anyone expected, but, there's a lot of work to do on the recruiting side...need height and width down low. Hope Coach Barnes is up to the task. Oh, yeah, BEAT LSU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

something that factors heavily in a recruit's mind is... "what he did with what he's got", "will parallel what he can do with me".

At this point, if I am a PG or C looking at UT, I am seething to go there.... instant PT for my position and a cast of teammates that come to play when it counts... RB, yes had a tough season. But he had this mediocre record with absolute holes in many places of his lineup.

I sure hope it helps in recruiting some big men...:)...I definitely agree that he (and staff) have done more with less than anyone in the SEC...no doubt about it...

So Rick has won 2 games in the tourney and has a chance to play in a 3rd. Holly won 2 games in the tourney and played in the third. Seems pretty equal at this point to me. Why don't we just let the season play out and see what the result is. You are either pretty insecure or arrogant as hell to feel it necessary to put your name in every thread title. Hope you don't break that arm patting yourself on the back. It would sit a lot better with people if you discussed the teams and not "Coach Jumper blah, blah, blah blah".

RB did it with significantly less nationally assessed talent, thank you very much...

Arrogance doesn't play into my posting of my name in a thread i start. Taking responsibility for a new thread posting does. If arrogance played into it, I would be spouting numbers for my first 4 posts... 20,000+ views, 238 replies and 133 likes in 143 posts... blah, blah, blah, blah and blah...

You claim it's not arrogance and then follow up that up with what you did. All righty then. I'm not saying I'm happy with the way this season has played out so far but it's not over yet. It does no good to keep bashing this staff because Holly will not be replaced this year. Period. I apologize but I'm just getting a little testy with all the bashing of a team I love and have followed since you were riding a tricycle. I would be all for making a change if I knew it was a coach I could get behind but to just make a change for the sake of making a change, no, I can't get behind that.

Are you serious? In comparing opening game rosters between the men and women, who do you think should have achieved the most success? The LVs have 7, yes 7, All-Americans on the roster and still set the UT record for losses in a season and fell out of the top 25 for the first time in over 30 years! You have to be completely orange, LV blinded to think CHW did even a decent job coaching this year.

You miss the point. Yes, the Lady Vols should have been much better considering the roster but at this point in the season we can't say what the final outcome will be. I have been critical this year and frustrated to no end but the continual bashing serves no purpose at this time. Holly isn't going anywhere this year. The biggest problem this year is those All Americans inability to put the ball into the hoop. That's on the players. The handling of the roster with constant substitutions and having all the non scorers on the floor at the same time is coaching. There needs to be a coach on the sidelines that has a heavy hand and demands the most of players. Do we have that? I don't know. I do know that's not Holly. Is it one of the other 3? I guess I'm just weary from this year and hoping for a better showing in the NCAA's. Congrats to Rick and the boys. Great job considering the roster. It seems like they are buying in and that's good to see. If we could just cheer for our teams for a couple of weeks and stop all the bashing, it would be nice.

You think HW was in the house with pencil and pad taking copious notes on HOW TO BE A REAL COACH and not to F/U with top talent? As long as HW continues to make bad decisions, she will continue to be bashed by the fans and the media. I am tired of people trying to give HW a way out of this mess by throwing players under the bus. Except for Diamond she recruited this team, did a fine job recruiting, however appears to have no control of the players. Now look at the mess we are in, we are now discussing if we can convince 3 star players to sign for 2016. Players we did not even consider until we blew the 2016 recruiting class. It all of sudden make a storied program look like a corner street beggar. HW, with talent, has dipped us to a level that no one envisioned. She is the CEO of this program, like any bad CEO she deserves to be called out until she corrects this mess.

Coach Jumper, have you been able to watch the Virginia men in the ACC tournament? Seems to me that Coach Holly could learn a lot about how to set up an offense by watching how the UVA men play.

Didn't RB just get fired for supposedly doing less with more? Not finishing five hundred for the season is not doing more with less.

It's an unwinnable battle, he clearly doesn't get it.

Coach Jumper: the reason I may finally actually use the ignore list.

(Make any excuse you like, prefacing thread titles with your "name" is ridiculous if your last name isn't Wooden.)

Also - your name is already associated with the thread without putting it in the title. This is attention seeking. Full of crap.

Starting your own threads again man

++++++++++++

If my threads start getting low numbers I promise to consider heavily further future posts. But right now, they seem to be getting viewed and feedback,,, Isn't that the purpose of this forum. The only useless part of this whole bulletin board thing is when personal attacks and vendettas like the one that I have with bearcat... those are the posts I dread and that I am sorry even happen.

I won't start a thread just to get my name out V4L ,,, I hope never to be that type of poster.

Thanks,
