UL-Lafayette: We have learned that ULL coaches were told last night that head coach Rickey Bustle will coach his last game today against UL-Monroe. Several people close to the situation tell us that ULL would like to offer USC assistant Ed Orgeron in the $425,000 range. We have heard that ULL is also interested in Oklahoma State special teams coordinator Joe DeForest and University of Arizona quarterbacks coach Frank Scelfo. We have learned that Arkansas offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee is interested in the job.

Hope he takes the job. USC is already 7-5 and will only get worse. Losing him as a recruiter would be a huge blow. Not to mention he is a good D-line coach.

i dont see him taking that big of a pay cut to be a HC....

Jon Gruden is apparently going to take a 1 million dollar pay cut for a more stressful job. :dunno:

Maybe he is willing to roll the dice? If he takes the job and is successful, he can leverage it into a better head coaching job for more money.

I could see this happening. A Louisiana boy going back home, a recruiting challenge, and the chance to be an HC again.

Jon Gruden makes over 4 milliion a year on ESPN?

He makes 4.3 million a year from everything I've gathered online. If Miami gives him 3.4 million, that's a 900,000 dollar pay cut with less job security. That's if everything we're hearing is accurate. I don't know if Ed O would take the job obviously but I wouldn't rule it out if Gruden is willing to do that. Granted Ed O is making less so the pay cut would affect him more. Who knows anymore though. I wasn't even sure Gruden would take an NFL job unless it was the Cowboys and they were willing to give him 8 million or something. This whole Miami thing is weird.

I was thinking the same thing. 4.3 million to watch and talk about football??? Living the life. Coaching football would be stressful as can be. I suppose he could always return to ESPN? Maybe? Hopefully he didn't burn any bridges.

4.3 mil seems pretty logically considering how much hack reality stars make per episode. Gruden is making around $250,000 per MNF.

Ed O isnt a good D line coach...

Yeah... all those guys that he coached to the pros suck.

"Orgeron was one of the highest paid assistant coaches in college football, with an annual salary of $650,000." - According to his wiki page.

You're right though, he isn't good.

The only reason he leaves USC is if Pat Haden is making his life miserable as the recruiting coordinator. That would also be a long term sign about Lane and his daddy's future at USC.

Doesn't matter where O ends up, the NCAA is watching him like a hawk these days. If he leaves USC, then i'd say O knows it won't be long before he'd be out of job anyway. SC will purge themselves of Kiffin eventually, it's just a matter of time.

I really think the only reason the staff was hired was to recruit. The program will be in shambles two years from now. They are just laying the ground work for the future coach. Lane will be coaching some garbage school soon enough or back to being OC/Recruiting Coordinator.

Doubt he gets another head coaching gig unless it's at a trash school like you say. Doubt he'd take a job where he'd be handicapped in that respect. Tough to win at these little programs with no money or good looking hostesses. He'll end up being someone's coordinator and recruiter. Probably where he should have stayed. Some guys aren't head coaching material. I think Lane fits in this category.
