Coachery

Interesting you mention Feldman. Didn’t he state Elliott is a top target? Could that be a smokescreen or a legit report on his part (just wondering out loud here)??
And what’s the big deal about it not being a Sexton guy? Is that a good or bad thing?
I don’t know that Herman is out. I don’t know that Feldman made up the Elliot story. I just know he and Low are on the wire before the official release. The Sexton thing is just something my friend said. It helps us narrow possibilities.

I don’t know. I get the feeling I may know when Feldman and Low know. People gave their words to keep it tight. It’s a small world right now. A journalist called my friend to ask “ are you Stoerner Fumbles?”. That’s how small. My friend slipped Thursday and said our target isn’t a Sexton client, and last night said, “Look for Haslam at the game. He’s happy, for now.” Of course every wanker enjoys rubbing it in when he can’t tell you a secret. My friend is no different. I’ve guessed Campbell in the past, and have tried to understand Frost’s influence. All dead ends. I’m not smart enough. I’m going to brush up on my Andy Griffith and Scooby Doo. They knew how to solve mysteries.
Thanks for the update.

If a hire is near, the biggest clue from the silence is that the other side, the coach’s side, is also quiet. No boosters at the other program being asked to make a counter for example. No fans of said coach noticing that coach traveling.

Imo That means a guy like Campbell with no agent and discipline. Or a guy not currently under a microscope of running a college program, or at least viewed as a candidate enough for anyone to watch. And finally an assistant, which is easier to keep under wraps.

Hiring a big fish not currently a college HC, would fit what other top programs have done to get an experienced HC. A guy like Petersen. Maybe Herman. Stoops would fit but I’m pretty sure he’s done. Maybe a pro guy?

The assistant doesn’t fit the quick turnaround with White unless a guy like Joe Brady.

Don’t get your boy burned!

This board ain’t worth a job (except to @Freak of course) or a friendship. We’ll figure it all out soon enough, I’m sure.

Has Nebraska given Frost the facilities to compete in the B10?
lol
Nebraska started the arms race of college football. Facilities are not the issue. Recruiting and now coaching are the problems.

Frost is the GQ version of Pruitt in regards to leading a team. Hemorrhaging excuses and pointing fingers at the players rarely goes well in a rebuild.

Just a guess but I would imagine that Sexton is pissed about UTK playing hardball with Pruitt on the buyout. How many Sexton clients have paid for players? How many are now questioning just how ironclad those "guaranteed" buyouts are? I worked for a boutique firm that had a niche in one industry for labor and employment law. Our principal made his bones off one particular type of contract that shielded our clients from lawsuits. Any time someone made a little headway at piercing the veil that those contracts created, all hell would break loose.

Not sure if this has been posted here yet. This guy have any credibility?

@JayNich41723000: Sources: Clemson OC Tony Elliott has been offered the Tennessee head coaching job and is expected to accept. Announcement could come as soon as Monday.

Not sure who this guy is but there has been a lot of smoke around Elliot over the last 24-48hrs so it’s plausible

And we can’t really go by his record at Nebraska if it happens to be him. No one can recruit at Nebraska anymore.

Agree. I said at the time that taking the Nebraska job was a bad move for both parties...and not just because of recruiting. But rather because Frost’s style is not conducive to Nebraska weather. They need to hire another triple option coach. I thought at the time that Paul Johnson would’ve been a great hire for them. They’re not going to beat teams with superior recruits. Their best course of action is pounding teams with that option system and player development.

Frost’s system requires southern athletes and mild weather. He’d have that at Tennessee. I’m not saying he should or shouldn’t be the hire...just that there are reasons to think he could do better here than there.

no just check the other posts that guy has made. Nothing shows he is the one guy to break the story.

It sure doesn’t seem like he’s a “builder”, like Plowman spoke about. What has he built?

Also goes against her “Tennessee isn’t the place for on the job training” comment.

Could be contingency smoke. White doing his job and lining up his clear backup plan if his standing HC targets say no.
I don't think White will do that. Either the smokescreens are pure fantasy created by over-eager media who foolishly look to sources like us for info (Stoerner excepted) or there is something to it. Elliott makes sense and he's apparently on the list. If I had to bet, I'd say it's his job unless he takes a pass on us.

Not a smokescreen- a contingency.

You don’t think White would do his job and work on candidates that may not be at the top of the list?

That’s what competent ADs do. They don’t just start on a guy once other guys say no. That’s how the good ones avoid the perception of falling down the steps.

It’s likely a guy like Danny, the son of a career AD with great connections, has had his list of candidates for his P5 AD job for awhile. He’ll go down that list quickly.

White, a guy from a family immersed in college athletics, has probably already informally talked hypotheticals with many on his list. Knowing he was coming to a place in which there was an imminent football hire, his pedigree and type nearly knows his new football hire before accepting the AD job.

With a temp like Fulmer as AD, I would not be shocked if he initiated coming to Tennessee, in part based on who he knew he’d “bring with” as the new FB coach. Surprised, but not shocked.

Also and I may be reading to much into this, but didn't stoener mention that White questioned the candidate of a sample staff, etc, etc? Could as someone else mentioned this possible be leaking information of maybe the "Head Coach" assembling his staff due to the comment that Fumbles said "he's been hearing for a week we got our guy and he's impressive" IDK, I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed!!

I’ve been saying that White might be having meetings to feel out if Elliott would want to come here in an assistant/OC/HCIW role or recruiting coordinator along with assistant coach type thing or it could be this:
