So now you’re saying there was the big guy at 1 and he said no, so we met with 3 others today? I’m not calling you out or anything, but I’m confused as to what happened to candidate #2? And if Elliott was #2, then you’re telling me that DW is that inept that he didn’t have a 3rd or 4th option? Which at this point I’m not sure I’m buying this because everyone and their mother says DW is not inept. I also find it hard to believe that his #2 was Elliott. That doesn’t fit any pattern in terms of what public comments have been made by both him and the leadership.

I think it’s alluded to in his post. #2 is an OC, and some with influence wanted other HCs to at least be truly considered.

My friend has talked about Elliot and his relationships to players and coaches here since we hired DW. I think DW has a high degree of comfort with him. That said, I think boosters and and chancellor prefer an HC. That may have pushed us to choice 3.

I believe my friend that we have a deal. I believe we missed on 1. I genuinely hope it’s 2, and they bent to let him hire a coordinator. If we get to 3, I don’t like the choice I’ve heard, but they are current HC’s.

No I see that, but I also think he’s wrong. DW has made it clear, as has our admin, that they want successful HC experience. Plus, no AD, unless named Currie, goes into a search with only two names and then says “well sh*t”. I don’t think #2 is Elliott. That or #2 also said no. Plus, if we met with and offered someone at 2:30, when did we meet at a neutral site? It’s already been announced that DW was in Knoxville today. So the plane thing all day was bogus. I’ll also add that a few posts ago it was pretty adamant and guaranteed that if 1 said no, then 2 would say yes. You’re not that adamant unless you know for sure that’s how it’s going down. I’m just saying that some stuff is now starting to seem off.

Not sure why we would meet with 3 candidates if we had #1 or #2 locked up. #2 must have had a change of heart, and #1 said no, as well.

But if we had acceptable terms with Elliott, why would the admin all of a sudden say no? Granted yes that’s UT for you, but Boyd and Plowman are different. Also, I read on here that Brice and someone else said White was in Knoxville all day. So are they wrong?

For there to be a contradiction, all of that would need to be true. Not all of that is from SF- I never think all the plane stuff is true.

We missed on #1, and #2 isn’t as universally and unequivocally agreed on. That’s common in many searches. DW is making the call, but there’s no harm in the amendment to the plan being two more interviews. Particularly when #2 is not a big fish, which it’s clear he’s not if we’re interviewing three right now. And it not being a big fish is consistent with SF tidbits.

That’s all fair. As a non-participant, I can only tell you the parts I know. DW traveling today is one of the details I know. What went off the rails, is a detail I don’t know. You’re right that the commitment to not meddle is something we both heard, and to meddle would be very UT. In my gut, I still think our chancellor is smart, and we hired a great AD. I’d still give him the benefit of the doubt to put the right plan together.
