I understand coaches wanting to keep their players out of trouble, but I don't agree with them stepping on players constitutional rights. Especially when the player has the proper permit allowing him to own/carry the weapon. I hope CBJ doesn't take the actions that Kentucky and Missouri have taken

He should just have a policy against breaking the law and leave it at that.

its pretty much bull****, and pretty sure a player could fight that if he wanted.

Why? A lot of teams have curfew rules. Technically that is an infringement of rights too. So basically you are suggesting that players should disregard what their coaches tell them to do. Smart.

Players are free to not play if they wish to own a gun. Really no different than players in Colorado

There is no "Right" to a curfew. Having said that any incoming player that has an issue with that policy can look elsewhere.

Now if a current player wanted to own a handgun and was told they were prevented from doing so there could be a problem. If the school said "You can have it but you won't play here." that would be fine unless they didn't give a full release. That last bit could get interesting. If a player left because of something traced to a Constitutional issue yet had restrictions placed on their leaving that could potentially be seen as a conflict.

The right to be out after a certain time is a right. The government can take that away if they wish. The only difference is that the forefathers didn't seem that necessary for a constitutional amendment. Just because it is not written down doesn't mean that it is not justified as a human right.

Seems like an odd thing to get upset about.

It seems odd that people still think if they make a tool illegal/against the rules that it will keep those with criminal intent from committing crimes.

Many of us in America are tired of that failed thinking and hate to see it now permeating into our school systems.

I'm not being ambiguous here...you are not going to get any traction about Constitutional rights and curfews (team rules) on a football squad. The 2A is an explicit enumerated right and as such there is at least the potential, dependent on specific circumstances, for there to be a conflict.

Maybe a poor analogy but regardless if your coach tells umyou to do something like not own a gun, then just don't own a gun.

Perhaps, I was just pointing out how in this case it's the unusual scenario where the idea of what usually would simply be a "team rule" is butting up against something that could possibly be more complicated.

I could be wrong but I'm not expecting any big issues.

Walk into a court house with a hand gun and tell them it's your 2nd amendment right to have it there. Coaches set the rules for their players. If they don't like it then they can quit.

For the love of...if you aren't even going to bother to put in a modicum of effort to stay contextually germane to the topic why bother answering?

Well, maybe this will keep Kentucky and Mizzou players from shooting themselves in the foot so much.
