If Tennessee was to hire Tressel, he would have to serve a five-game suspension to start the season and the Vols would be ineligible for a bowl game in his first season... Would you still want him?

yes.. exempt from bowl games is a small price to pay for rebuilding a program.. tressel is a proven winner and execellent recruiter and can rebuild immediately

I believe only he is banned from the bowl game. The team can still go. Next year will be hard for any coach to come in so yes I would take the "show cause" for Tressel.

I think there will be a huge surprise and we get Jim Tressell.

He can't coach for another couple of years. Maybe we can get him in 2016 that's the only chance. Honestly I'm feeling Butch Davis or Charlie Strong and hopefully be able to keep our O coaches

No, he can be hired. He has to set out the first 5 games, banned from certain team functions, has to report to the NCAA every few months and has to miss the teams bowl game.

Without spreading a rumor, I am 100% sure that Fulmer will be there......in N.Y.

Remember, i we are behind on our search, the Auburn, Arkansas are behind also......

(1) I believe that Hart did not want Gruden to be our coach due to Gruden being a rock star figure and Hart would not be in control of the football program but Hart would be a figure head, so to speak. So, he made a half hearted effort on Gruden.

(2) I believe that no coach at a major, historical program will want this job. It would be a lateral move for them. Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ok State, FSU, Miami, etc.

(3) I believe that we end up with Jones from Cincinnati.
I also believe that on the day that he is announced that Hart will attempt to b.s. us and say "This is the guy that I wanted all along"

(1) silly logic, not buying it

(2) Maybe true, lot's of moving parts there. every situation is different.

(3) i think you may be right on Butch Jones, and i think it would be a good hire. not the sexy big-name everyone's dying for let's stop bs'ing, those big-name guys don't always equate to success.

Haven't we served our 2 year bowl ban already??
I hate the idea of having to take someone else's reject...I mean we are TN and should be able to attract a more than qualified coach, who doesn't have the baggage, to lead us back to relevance.

Fulmer has some TN experience, has won a championship and owns land in Maryville...makes him an automatic hire based on several posters on this board.

Funny, we're both Vols, but we certainly don't have the same beliefs.

Ok, first of all we are not ever hiring Fulmer, please let's all get passed that. For the Fulmerite's the best case scenario is we hire the gang. (Cut, Chavis, Martin, Dale Jones, Graham). Btw: Appy state is looking for a head coach, so Dale Jones is definitely open and wants to come back.

Second, we are not hiring Butch Jones. Never going to happen.

We are interviewing Jim Mora and Art Briles if he doesn't go with Arky. Briles though is from Texas and Arky would be. Better fit. Have heard no rumors about Penn state head coach, I am surprised by that.

Jimbo Fisher would get the job if he says yes. It's his if he wants it. Strong is number 2 and would get to accept or turn it down by Wednesday. Not sure of the dark horses, but wish they would talk to Del Rio and Leavitt though before deciding.

Right now, I am 100% all in that on Friday Charlie strong will be announced as the next UT head coach.

I'm still not sure about Fisher though. I understand wanting to be in the SEC, but FSU is like his dream school to coach at. He doesn't even have to recruit at FSU, the players automatically come. Strong seems more likely though

Lot of names being kicked around on the VN wishlist.

We're going to end up with someone not on that list. Another out of the blue WTH hire. I just hope it's a good one. JMO

1.) You don't know anything...because no one knows. So you believe that because you think Gruden was a good idea. He wasn't.

2.) Money always has and always will talk the loudest. Lateral moves are determined by the almighty $.

3.) Jones doesn't have anything that Hart is looking for...so go pout somewhere else. Or, relax and party on.

If you let yourself get worked up over Gruden it's no one's fault but yours. It was a pipe dream...and not a very good one.

Source WIKI.
Tressel left Ohio State as the third-winningest coach in school history, behind Woody Hayes and John Cooper. However, on July 8, 2011, Ohio State vacated all of its wins from the 2010 season and placed the football program on two years' probation.[47]
On December 20, 2011 the NCAA placed Ohio State on an additional one year's probation and banned it from postseason play in 2012 for numerous major violations under Tressel's watch. It also imposed a five-year show-cause penalty on Tressel, which means any NCAA member that wants to hire him would have to "show cause" for why it shouldn't be sanctioned for hiring him, and could face severe penalties if he commits any further violations during that time. The order stands until December 19, 2016; given past precedent, it will likely have the effect of blackballing Tressel from the coaching ranks until the 2017 season. If Tressel ever coaches again during this period, he will be suspended for the first five games of the regular season, plus any conference championship game or bowl game. The NCAA came down particularly hard on Tressel because he'd had four chances to tell the truth and failed to do so. Among other things, he claimed that he didn't come forward because he believed doing so would jeopardize a federal drug investigation involving Rife.:popcorn:

We arent anywhere close to being behind on our search. Zero chance Butch Jones is our next coach either. Will be Charlie Strong and its a great soon to be hire.

YES, because he would solidify the future of our program.
