Coaches Poll Week 14 - UT #8

There’s been fewer must win games as significant as the one coming up for the Vols. If they come in flat, play undisciplined, and lose this game with the playoffs on the line, it will say a ton about Heupel as a leader. Meaning he ain’t one.

You will get pushback for this: “Look at where we were! Heupel has done so much!” Which is of course true, Heupel has been fantastic and has turned the program around in a massive way.

And yet…if he doesn’t have these boys frothing at the mouth ready to whoop some tail on Saturday, it’s a major indication that he’s a Mark Richt-type coach. Great for stabilizing and elevating the program back to something resembling its historic standard, but not the person to lead you all the way back to the promised land.

That being said, I think our boys will indeed get it done on Saturday, and for now I’m still going to focus on the majority of the evidence that says Heupel is “the guy.”

I know what you are saying, but Richt won the SEC a couple of times and I would enjoy that after a 26 year drought.

They’re keeping bama right there to jump in if Tennessee loses to Vandy
Gump gets slaughtered by a terrible Oklahoma team and are still on the cusp. Yeah, they are set up to jump in if ANYBODY stubs their toes. It's disgusting.

Although another potential chaos maker in the coaches poll is BYU or AZ St. As much as I hate them (BYU), if they win the Big 12, then what? What if AZ State wins it? Who's out?

And one other thing: The coaches poll has 3 Big 10 teams in the top 4. That ain't happening. And what about ND? Can they be in the top 4? I thought the top 4 were conference champs. ND doesn't play in a conference, so how can they even be in the top 8? So if the conference standings end in the places they are now, the top 4 would be Oregon/OSU/TX/SMU. Then what?

I think this thing is faaaaaaaaar from even close to being settled.

In this Scenario, wouldn't we play GA at GA?
Oregon - 1 seed - Bye Big 10
OSU - 5th Seed - 2nd Big 10
TX - 2nd Seed - Bye SEC
Penn - 6th Seed - 3rd Big T10
ND - 7th Seed - Loner
GA -8th Seed - 2nd SEC
Miami - 3rd Seed - Bye ACC
TN - 9th Seed - 3rd SEC at GA
AZ - 4th Seed - Big 12
SMU -10th Seed at ND
IN - 11th Seed at Penn
Boise - 12th Seed at OSU

This correct? Lot of IFs and Maybes there. We would have to get to 8 to host. Beat Candy first. I'd rather not play GA at home again.
