Coaches With the Best Starting Point

A fun start, but ELO can't factor at all for roster construction, which would have Heupel's situation significantly lower I'd think.

I'm afraid we are about to lose our HC at Austin Peay..............
i bet you are correct.
Question is do you think he gets a big time offer to a low to mid-tier P5 school, or does he get boosted via the domino effect to a school like a Toledo or something?

Miss St should interview him. They won't, but he coached at Southern Miss, so he has MS ties even though he's from TX.

Maybe they will because the #1 MSU need is a current head coach with another program. They are in a similar situation we were in (as far as desperately needing a proven leader of a program) except no fault of their own. Losing a successful head coach to death is really hard to overcome I’d imagine. Stability is what he’d bring IMO.

I wonder if this is day 1 of the new coach or the first game day of the season? I just think about how many players left before the season started for CJH.
Yea, the devil is in the details And just a cursory look didn’t give me much as to the methodology. I think the biggest positive he inherited was that JG was gone. 😂

But seriously, we lost a number of key players who decided to transfer out - and I know the word was that some were told to leave. Those losses had immediate impact but the longer term impact is that pretty much all of Pruitt’s last class is no longer here. You always lose guys each year but next year’s senior class will be extra thin. Of course with the portal you can compensate and Heuple has done pretty well in the portal.

An interesting chart showing the starting point for coaches taking over a program since 2015. Day is ahead of everyone else, with Orgeron and Helton also born on 3rd base.

Pruitt and Heupel were both higher than I expected. Only a smaller number of coaches had a significantly better situation. Not great but not terrible.

Glad we aren't Kansas.

I’d take Leipold as a coach anytime.
