Coaching Staff Recruiting Grounds

so strange

Very strange indeed- here are some theories:

1. Coach Heupel does not want Steele on staff but UT is refusing to sever ties, thinking Steele will resign for another coaching opportunity ( UT doesn’t owe him a dime if he resigns).

What does UT have to lose as he is going to be paid by UT regardless, unless he resigns.

2. The administration is concerned Steele is a good recruiter and possibly resort to negative recruiting w the past two month debacle...

So I assume the admin thinks he will resign to seek employment elsewhere since he is a competitor, as it is difficult to see him sitting on the couch every day for the next two years. Plus Auburn is paying him and our salary pales in comparison

The above are just possibilities and I am just spitballing. I’m probably way off base.

I’ve spent too much time with this post so UT will probably announce his termination tomorrow, 😆.

He is currently not on staff and not in TN. He isn’t involved with the program at all and not considered as a coach on staff. UT could call him an analyst or give him some type of title, however, he is not counted towards the allowed coaches’ number.

The coaches have recruited these certain states.

Heupel- Texas, Oklahoma, Florida
Golesh- Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, New York
Banks- Michigan, Indiana, Pennslyvania, Maryland
Halzle- Arizona, California
Mack- North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee (Memphis)
Burns- Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Virginia
Elarbee- Florida, Mississippi, Virginia, Tennessee (Nashville)
Garner- Georgia (Atlanta Area), Alabama, Mississippi, Florida
Jean-Mary- Texas, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina
Martinez- Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee (Nashville)

Final Coach??????
Burns is from Arkansas. I’d expect him to help with Memphis area.

Heupel and Elarbee coached at Missouri. I’d expect the occasional player out of that state.

He’s under contract. I don’t think he’ll get paid to sit on the couch. It does seem a bit odd to have 2 LB coaches when you want to run a 2 LB alignment.

I’d bet he isn’t on the staff in 2 weeks.

He is under contract but not anywhere near the staff. Can that change? I guess, but doubtful. I’m sure something is going on behind the scenes. Maybe the administration thinks Steele will eventually find a job soon? But as of now he isn’t considered a position coach currently @ UT

Right now he is “recruiting” with no position to coach. Obviously that can’t continue.

From what has been said by players on the team and other coaches, Steele is not recruiting nor any other task related to UT program.

It’s weird but I would not be surprised if the admin is hoping he resigns vs another buyout. Only @ TN. 😝

Slight difference: our coach didn't have an undefeated season and play in a BCS bowl. Minor difference.
Heupel had an undefeated season then barely lost to LSU (who won a national title the next year) in a close game with their back up QB.
