I hear you loud and clear brother. The Vols should stop limiting themselves to the "Vol Family." Let's get the best available coaches. :cross:

Don't be so quick to diss coach Cutt. It was he, after all, who in one season shifted our drop back passer offense for Peyton into one that allowed the more mobile Tee Martin to use his skills. Cutcliffe crafted the National championship season. I have not forgotten how much offensive knowledge this man brings to the table.

This good ole boy system of not firing Sanders is not acceptable.  If any of us performed at our job as he does, we would and should be fired.

I totally agree. The "good ole boy" system is alive and well in Tennessee, and it will not get the job done. Tennessee for some reason is scared to go outside of the box to locate coaching talent in other parts of the country. It seem like they are only interested in recycling coaches.
We need new and fresh ideas. Why do you think companies constantly change mid-level personnel? They want new ideas to have the competitive edge. UT needs to develop that type of mentality.

I think the point 67 was making though is that Cutcliffe took heat for his playcalling just like every other OC. He's a good coach, and it's probably a good move, but I wouldn't consider him some sort of guru who is going to be our savior either.

That was pretty comprehensive article. I have nothing against Randy Sanders but I think his career would be bettered by at a smaller school.

I'm thinking the job at MTSU may be opened. That might be a good option for him--if it does open.

Also, do ya guys think Cut and CPF can get along? Sometimes, I think CPF is getting too stubborn in his ways with age.

Guess we'll see if this helps. Better than nothing.

Fair enough GA. I would just point out that Fulmer is the HC, and so the team is going to run the kind of offense that he wants. Coach Cutcliffe and CPF are as like of mind as you are likely to find. I respect them both immensely[this season notwithstanding for Fulmer], and more importantly Fulmer respects Cutcliffe. I don't really have any illusions about "guru" status for Cutcliffe, but Charlie Weiss thought enough of Cutt's approach to the game to ask him to help run his offense. Folks aren't saying very much negative about Weiss's offensive decision making lately.

One more thought, if this is where we are going to go, then let's go ahead and do it now. It's not like Cutcliffe has to learn anything new to run this offense. Thoughts on this?

Just having Cut back to work with the QB's will be worth it. I think that he can get Ainge turned around and I'm sure he will do a lot of good for Crompton too.

I hear what you are saying, but I think midseason changes are dangerous at best. It might energize the team, or it might rip the team apart and turn a down season into a dismal season.

It already is dismal. At this point even Phil can put a good spin on the changes to the players. I'm sure they are saying Help as bad as we are.

If Cutt does come back, I would like to think that he picked up a few new wrinkles in offensive play calling by spending some time at ND with Weiss. We all know their production this year.

This appears to be an appropriate response by Fulmer. However, he has to realize that these changes MUST be effective. It cannot be just the appearance of change by merely re-shuffling the deck. If it is not effective and we don't win 9 games,(it may require 10), he may be gone himself after next season.

If this is all true then I say "GREAT welcome back Cut" If Sanders is willing to accept the change then it would be to his benefit,he is a good coach but a below average OC he along with Cut did outstanding jobs with Shuler and those leading up to Peyton...Lets all remember that after Jerry got hurt on the 6th play at UCLA we had Todd Helton starting at QB until they felt Peyton was ready...I have no problem with the moves ...

First, Coach Fulmer is a master at bring in good talent, but needs to stop being a father figure to some of these players. They are young men when they get here and young men when they leave for the next level.

The fact that they are young men is precisely why some of them need father figures. If the goal is to run future NFL players through 3 or 4 years of eligiblity for the happiness of the Vol Nation, then let's go get Jimmy Johnson. I fully realize this may be a heresy on here but if college football is about something beyound that, then having a father figure as a coach is a great thing. Good fathers can "crack the whip" when needed.

I suggested this in a post not too long ago.  Let Fulmer coach the OL, if he is responsible for them, they will be responsible for getting the job done.  With that, it opens up a position for the special teams.  I bet they read my post.  :blush2:  :biggrin2:

So let's look ahead six days from now, after ND whips us 35-3. Is Fulmer's hand forced then? If he is smart, he might want to be lowering expectations for this weekend right away.

You don't want to lose the HC right now. If you do, you doom UT to at least 3 years of records like this (recruiting takes a hit, players transferring, attendance down, etc...). And look at Nebraska, they still haven't recovered! Let PF make his changes and let's go from there. It sounds like it's going to be a bloodbath over there.

"One other impetus for the change is that the sales of the new club seating planned for Neyland Stadium, which is to fund all of the $100 million worth of improvements and renovations over the next several years, has ground to a screeching halt with the poor performance of this team. Hamilton had told Fulmer he needed to make staff changes after the 2003 season, but he was ignored since he was new on the job. This time the funds to increase and extend Fulmer’s $2 million-plus annual contract are being threatened."

Translation: Money talks and the BS walks.

There will be a press conference later to announce the resignation of Randy Sanders, and possibly other moves as well. Sanders will stay on the staff, possibly as quarterbacks coach, but he will no longer be the offensive coordinator. Fulmer is expected to take over the play calling duties until further notice...

Also, another report indicates that Cutcliff has not been cleared by doctors as of yet to return to coaching at any level. So, who knows what is going to happen, but either way, Sanders is out.

the rumor is there is a press conference scheduled at 3:00 today. will these changes be enough to quell the rebellion. if we play bad next year i don't think so.
