Coastal Carolina QB Grayson McCall

I wonder if he would want to come over to Knoxville to a program which is definitely on the rise?

Jesus Christ, why does everyone want us to take every QB in the portal? Maybe we could fill and entire roster with QB's. We have our QB for next year and the years following......lets focus on secondary and a disruptive edge guy...

Because if Milton doesn't work out, or gets hurt, then our options are Jackson who has not played a lot of football, and Nico who is a true freshman. We need another option that can be reliable.

So you really think a starting QB at another school would transfer to UT to be a backup… 0% chance. Nico and Tayven would easily be better options than anyone we could get from the portal.

You never know one of Tennessee's Quarterbacks might tire of waiting and transfer out himself. Tennessee then would possibly be hurting for quarterback depth.

I think that's why things are moving slow for us in the portal right now. While there's a ton of folks IN the portal, activity is a bit muted in terms of actual movement. I think there are going to be better quality players hitting the portal after bowl season and again after spring ball. I also see coaches being cautious with hitting the portal hard until their signing class hay is in the barn. Call me a conspiracy guy, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there aren't already several handshake agreements that have already taken place. Just waiting on the right time to announce it.

Most of these transfers are looking for places where they’re pretty much a lock to start though. We can’t offer that.

1)I don’t want to rush Nico to have to start as a true freshman. I don’t see him being physically ready.
2)If they get a starting QB from another program it won’t be for them to sit on the bench, it will be bc they don’t feel good about Milton or Jackson as the starter going forwards.

What a calm, level-headed response.

So you would trust someone who has less than one year in the system over a kid who would have 2 years learning?? Seems smart......

“If” Tennessee takes any QB in the portal it should be this guy.

Perfect for Heupel’s system. Great %, takes care of the ball, great averages and exceptional TD to int ratios throughout his career……can run the ball as well.

78 td’s - 8 int’s in 3 years at 70.4% (for his career)

And be the 3rd maybe 4th string guy? I doubt it…

Why do you guys think this guy would be a 3rd or 4th stringer?

I love Milton and I’m hopeful he will be good for Tennessee next year; however if McCall came to Tennessee he would be starting day one.

Played in a similar style O, extremely accurate, and WAY efficient. (Thrown for 8k at 10.25 yards per attempt, 78td’s vs 8 int’s in 3 years….on a team like Tennessee that runs the ball a lot).

Not saying Tennessee will or should get him…..just asking why folks think this.

Heupel has earned the right to be picky when it comes to QBs. McCall is the textbook definition of a system QB. He has been running a unique one for awhile.

Why would you think he could succeed in big boy football? He has been feasting on nobodies for 3 years. Huge step up in competition. There is no reason to think he could come in and beat out Milton or Jackson given their seniority and familiarity with Heupels system.

What has Milton and Jackson been “feasting” on…….if/when feasting at all?

McCall has been going against much tougher competition than any freshman coming in. Yet we all seem to love the freshman every year.

McCall has great accuracy, from a system similar to Tennessee’s………”accuracy” translates level to level.

You understand guys come from JR colleges and smaller schools to power schools every year and make an impact?

Tennessee just took a coach from the exact same type level…….how’s that working out? If he’s good he’s good.

I’ve been a Milton fan and still am; however this guy could be a legit hit for Tennessee.

Milton still a bit of an unknown……we just don’t know yet. Jackson hasn’t done anything……at any level.

This guy is going to be a power 5 QB, and a very good one. Just saying “if” Tennessee took an option on “someone” this is where they should do it……….right up Heupel’s alley.

He beat an undefeated BYU team last season...The kid can play...I am a fan of his style....He would have no problem adapting.

Mainly because it's WF. The smallest university, appr 5-6000, in FBS. It's an academic school. And they compete.
