Coastal Carolina QB Grayson McCall

Hopefully he stays out of the SEC. NC State would be a good school for him.

So you really think a starting QB at another school would transfer to UT to be a backup… 0% chance. Nico and Tayven would easily be better options than anyone we could get from the portal.

You don't know that. Nico has a chance to be one of our great QB's. But right now we have no idea what either can do. The guy from Wake Forest ( Hartman)would be the one I want but McCall would do well too. Both are potential NFL early round picks. Saying a FR and True FR that have never started a college game would be better than a few of the transfer portal guys is just so far from being accurate. Milton has off the charts potential but has been extremely inconsistent. Another QB for dept,, competition or even starting isn't a bad thing. Perfect scenario has Milton taking the reins and going with it. But if you don't think Hartman wouldn't instantly improve our QB room, then I've got nothing left to say. Competition is NEVER a bad thing.

I would bet a million dollars neither of the QBs you mentioned would come here. They don’t want competition. They want a guaranteed starting job which we cannot offer. It’s crazy that people don’t understand that. Obviously Hartman would improve the QB room but there is 0% chance he would come here so why even think about it as an option… why would a QB who starts and does well at a team transfer to a team to compete for a starting job against a QB with “off the charts potential…”

And what I said was the only QBs that would willingly come and compete for the job here (not Hartman or McCall) are likely worse than what we have in our QB room aka Nico who’s considered a generational QB.

Again if you think our staff is reaching out to QBs then I’ve got nothing left to say.

Not if you think about it. You think McCall or any other good QB is gonna transfer to a school where they know they are going to have to compete for a starting job? Especially if they have only a year or two left to play? Would you do that?

Let’s do a comparison between TN and UF. AR is going to the NFL. His backup maybe going to prison. They are left with a 3rd string bum at QB. Now if he went to UF, he is gonna be the starter with his experience. Now let’s take TN. Milton, Jackson and Nico. He would absolutely have to battle for a starting spot and there is no guarantee he would get it. Which means there is a likely chance he would transfer just to be the backup.

Heupel is a much better offensive mind than Napier. But which team is GM most likely to pick? A guaranteed starting job at UF? Or a possible starter at TN?

CJH needs to demonstrate Keller Chryst's experience was an outlier at Knoxville.
He was a successful QB who came here to star and was constantly passed over by Pruitt and that coaching regime because they had no desire to run a pass oriented offense. They preferred JG's practice heroics.

I think a lot of QB portal talk is based on the idea that if Joe doesn’t play well against Clemson that the staff will move on from him and find a plug and play guy to give Nico a year to develop. True Freshman QBs don’t do well in the SEC. Hurts is the only one recently to do it, but he had a top notch defense and wasn’t asked to go out and score 40 a game. I don’t think Nico will be ready until late next season at the absolute earliest

Let's hope Joe Milton does great and the bowl game and proves that Heupel can develop quarterbacks. If he can develop Milton just think what he can do with their five star. Nico, I'm looking forward to a great bowl game against Clemson.
Though, as we've learned again this year, you can never have enough quality quarterbacks
