Is he a cornerback? A nickelback? A safety?

What Justin Coleman winds up playing on the back end or in the box of the Tennessee defense could be quite telling in 2014.

If the rising senior is able to rotate inside to nickelback versus Spread offenses or roll to safety against Pro-Style sets, that both means the Volunteers found a cornerback opposite Cameron Sutton that’s at least serviceable and that Coleman can finally play a position that better suits his skill set.

They don't pay me enough to decide where to play him. However, there is a coaching staff that IS paid to work through those decisions. I trust them.

Coleman is one of the fastest players on the team, he just doesn't have the best instincts to play CB in the SEC.

Agree, nickel is the best position for Coleman. We needed a better nickel player last year..when our DB was spread out the lack of speed to fill gaps was evident

speed kills. maybe the should move him to a pstition that he will not have to think.

I honestly think it would be nice to move him the other safety position. Would sure up the back-end without having to depend on Freshman.

Moseley seems to be a frosh CB that has been getting raves, it would not surprise many to see him starting, moving Coleman around happens if young Moseley can pull it off.

I love the idea of moving Coleman. The biggest problem I saw with him was his coverage skills. Obviously this got him butchered against any above average SEC WR. Sliding into safety or nickel will allow him to roam a little more and not have to be attached to someone's hip. Seems to fit his game a lot better.

More importantly, someone is going to have to step up and pull a Cam Sutton on the other corner spot. It could happen two years in a row and if it does, I think the secondary will be solid. I've got my fingers crossed.

Good points.

I see it completely possible for at least ONE of our DB's to provide a similar production to Sutton. I'm very excited about seeing Cam play in orange for 3 more seasons.

What's crazy is UT was 27th in the nation in pass yards allowed per game. We weren't that bad. The run D was the part that was absolutely abysmal. 100th in the nation. Some of those offenses we faced didn't do us any favors.

As long as Martinez is the DB coach I have no reason why to think one wouldn't. He does a very good job with DBs

I agree 100%. The work he put in with Sutton was very impressive. Even as talented as Sutton is it is no cakewalk getting a freshman ready for SEC WRs. I hope we can hold on to Martinez for the long run.

I hate that band so much that I'd sign a petition to have the name changed to any other denomination of coin.

Back on topic though... I like our DBs better this year, I think this year or next Cam will prove to be worthy of the title "shut down corner". This is a good move for Coleman.

With the incoming recruits by the middle of the season we will be in good shape we will have SEC speed on the back end, all that concerns me is the DL.

nickelback or bench. can't take a chance on safety or corner. he gets torched way to often.

Honestly I'm kind of hoping Coleman has been recruited over. No disrespect to the guy, but he's just Teague part 2. Gives a lot of cushion and gets burned a lot. Misses his share of tackles too.
