Let's all take one as things are getting pretty vitriolic.

The election is over. The country faces some tough times and there are a lot of dangers lurking out there for Obama and the Congress. It will be interesting to see how they handle them.

I say we give the man a chance.

Look at it this way, McCain supporters. If it goes really poorly from here, then you will have a field day with it in '12, maybe even in the interim elections in '10.

My problem is that I only supported Mac because I didn't agree with Obama. I assume there are a lot of people that felt the same way. I'd like a candidate that's not a poor choice, but that's not practical anymore.

Yea plus we don't get the brunt end of the blame game any more. :)

I'm afraid if Obama tanks after taking office, his supporters will still blame Bush for getting us in this mess in the first place. Obama either succeeds tremendously, or does poorly and Bush still gets the blame. Win/Win for Obama.

What if Obama does wonders for this country...then will the RIGHT have a lot to complain about..I would doubt it but they'll try to find something.

obama will take full credit for the incoming cyclical economic recovery. that might save him. otherwise he's a 1 termer. I'll support him as long as he doesn't try to put through his social programs. Programs that could bancrupt my grandchildren like medicare, social security, and welfare have killed this country.

I agree!

this whole "Death to you & your America hating ways " is silly. I have numerous friends that I disagree with politically. It does not make them bad people! My closest friend, a brother to me, would vote for a gilded turd before a Democrat. Yet he & I will be cheering loudly side by side at Neyland on the 29th.

I'm sure that MANY of us on here are good people who happen to disagree about the choices we make for who is going to tell us how to run our lives for the next 4 years.

That is what the vitriol is coming from...the differences of 2 men who have chosen careers of telling us what is best for us.

I have issues with welfare..but I see nothing wrong with medicare and social security.

If he is a smart man who cares more about this country than pushing his social programs he will do well. Unfortunetly i think he thinks it's his duty to be a robin hood of sorts.

billions are wasted because of medicare. as for social security you will never convince me that the richest people in this country should receive a pension paid for by the poor hard working young.

I keep telling people that Medicare and social security are socialist programs, but I really think there is a disconnect out there between recognizing what these programs are and the academic definitions of the words people like to throw around.

Anyone who thinks that we will have a single payer health care system in the next ten years is delusional. On the other hand, anyone who thinks that they'll have 20 insurers or HMOs to choose from in 25 years is just as insane.

There is no political will to scrap these programs and replace them with something better suited to what their real goal is. Instead, we just pile onto them. It's a looming disaster of epic proportions.

I agree as far as the richest receiving social security...but the majority of people receiving social security really need it to live.

the young need to be outraged by this. social security should be merged into welfare IMO. It's a tax plain and simple and it always has been a tax. The old see it as some sort of pension plan.

that's why i suggest merging it into wealthfare. or even if we merle eliminated it for anyone making over $100K a year or anyone with over $1 mil in liquid net worth we would significantly decrease the burden on the young.

What did you expect, a wedge has been driven into American that has divided us along ideological lines. Most people buy into it and when their "team" loses, they react accordingly.

Good idea.

Ummm....before I take this deep breath. Have the Democrats introduced a tax on air yet? :neener2:

Rome was eventually bankrupted for their tendency toward public help.

I am about convinced at this point that a flat tax rate, with, say, a $25,000 per person exemption, is in order. The tax system in this country is being abused by both the left and the right to reward their own constituencies and it has become its own monster.
