Corso should have retired a decade ago. He’s really hard to listen to. He’s just embarrassing himself at this point. I can’t believe ESPN still lets him be on the air. He’s had an amazing legacy, but it’s time for it to end.

I’m so happy to watch a 15 minute segment about Home Depot. I tune into Gameday to watch them interview their CEO. That’s exactly what I expect when I watch a show about college football analysis.

And if you ask me, high definition has hurt shows like Gameday and Sportscenter because of one huge problem - the delay. The delay used to be a minor problem, less than a second, but as HDTV has gotten better and better, audio synching has gotten worse. Listening to the awkward 5 seconds of silence between analysts as they take turns speaking is becoming unbearable. Also, the production value has dropped significantly. It’s like watching a youtube channel with 10k subscribers. Quality analysis has dropped off so much over the years in favor of trying to cater to the casual fan. This has been a problem for about 20 years, but it has steadily gotten worse and worse. Now it’s just cringeworthy, not worth watching, and it’s really sad.

I think the way to fix it is get rid of Corso, stop having celebrity special guests like Katie Perry and Kenny Chesney, that have nothing to do with football, and make the show only one hour again, so there’s not any time to do the weekly “sad” story that no one cares about, and reducing the show to one hour gets rid of the 30-40 minutes of hot takes from the dozens of “analysts.” I don’t mind listening to the weekly pick ‘ems, those are fun, but the segments where they argue about who’s going to win the Heisman or which coach will get fired this year…I just don’t care, especially when it’s before the season even starts.

Maybe I’m just a bitter old man who wants the UT glory days to return, and I’m taking it out on Gameday. I dunno. Am I being unreasonable here?

Gameday was at its best in the 90’s of course our football team was too so maybe I’m bias but gameday was actually informative and had good analysis back then from its guests
. It’s really just all fluff now and meaningless banter and yes Corso needs to go.

Definitely agree on Corso. You listen to him stumble for 3 to 5 seconds and it hurts. The other guys have to cover for him which hurts the quality as well.

The other issue imo is that it's all scripted now. No real discussion on air, just reading and playing a part. They already know what they are going to say except for the breakaways.

The old man in me hates the betting stuff. Like you said it takes away from real analysis.

I think the celebrity guests can be fine if they have an interest in football. I remember last season they had 21 Pilots on and the singer was quoting stats of Texas Tech’s quarterback or something, and he’s an Ohio State fan.

How about some pole dancers instead of Katie Perry?

Unreasonable to expect a show as huge as gameday to cater to your tastes as a hardcore fan rather than the general public? Noooooo

Oh yeah. I would have no problem if it was a famous former football player or coach as a guest. That is perfectly appropriate. Country singers and actors are not.

Part of the reason of why it was so bad today is bc it’s Week 0. We’ve heard the same the stuff now for months from everyone else. Bama, UGA, Ohio State, Clemson…same old same old. I wouldn’t mind if it went back to 2 hours. I don’t mind celebrity pickers if they actually know what the hell they’re talking about .

How many hours is Gameday, wasn’t it just 1 hour back it’s prime.

It was one hour until some time in the early 2000s. I can’t remember exactly when they started going to 2 hours. That’s when it started going downhill. Too much filler time with stories people don’t care about.

It’s was 1 hour for most of, if not all the 90’s. I think they went to 90 minutes for a few years before going to two hours. Then in 2013 they expanded to three hours.

Things is...lots of people actually do care about the human interest fluff. They wouldn't show them if people didn't.

Gameday's core audience is not meathead football nerds like most of us who inhabit this forum, whose sole interest is just watching the game.
