Pathetic. Auburn gets by with essentially no punishment, other than 2-game suspension for Pearl. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State gets the complete and total screw job.

Naturally, Auburn fought this so nothing happened to them. I hope our fans are ready for what will eventually come down the pipe from the NCAA RE: our football program. We cooperated, which means we'll get hammered.

I thought Auburn was placed on a 4 year probation?

Probation is weak sauce. Virtually means nothing. Only "real" punishment they got was the 2-game suspension for Pearl, which in December is a big LOL. He won't miss any big games.
Pearl was suspended for half the SEC season following his Tennessee rules violation. Just a strange application of punishment.

I mean, at this point, a tinfoil hat is starting to materialize over my head because the NCAA hating Tennessee is the only thing that makes sense. When they give us a 2-year post-season ban and a reduction of 10 scholarships for the football program sometime next year it will only confirm what I fear to be true.

How many games did Pearl get suspended for UT, 12 ? Pearl has to have the record for most games suspended by a coach, right ? Unbelievable, he keeps cheating, already had a 3 year show cause and still gets a slap on the wrist. Of course, Pearl just let an Auburn basketball legend take the fall for him, Chuck Person (who got prison time, iIrc).

At least we don't have to worry about them giving us the death penalty. Our coaching searches provide too much entertainment.

One would think a pattern of behavior had been pretty well established by now.

I'm not so sure. Okie State didn't self-impose a postseason ban, and in fact, I believed they appealed to play last year. While laughable that Auburn self-imposed a postseason ban last year with a 13-14 team, I believe they did it before the season started or right as it started. That's a significant difference.

All of you that are bellyaching need to just wait and see. I believe our administration has a pretty good idea after they decided not to self-impose a bowl ban.

That was also by Mike Slive and the SEC and not the NCAA. Very strange. I think Slive thought punishing Pearl in the conference would help with the NCAA punishment.

He was suspended for the first 8 SEC games in the 2010-11 season. That suspension, however, was handed down by league commissioner Mike Slive and the SEC, not the NCAA.

It will be interesting if the SEC makes an attempt to maintain fairness and suspends him again.

They did it a few games into the season because they knew the team they had was awful. They saw an opportunity to try and mitigate some damage, they took it, and it worked out. I don't consider that a punishment because they knew they weren't good enough to make the post-season anyway.

The attached is dated 11/22/20. Because of the pandemic, Auburn's first game last year was 11/26/20. They also self-imposed recruiting sanctions that were not initially made public.

There are distinct differences between the situation at Auburn and Okie State.

Well, either way, I'm sure Bruce & Co. knew prior to the start of the season that what they had was not a tournament team, which I can guarantee factored into their decision to self-impose a ban. I'm not going to pat Auburn on the back for gaming the system.

And I am not saying the system is perfect...but both schools got a one year postseason ban. AND...both got it when they wanted it. Maybe Auburn knew their team wasn't great. But, Okie State had Cade Cunningham, and they appealed it because they knew they were going and pushed their ban off a year. They both "gamed" the system.

Edit: Also, a month or two ago, the NCAA released timelines on other investigations, including LSU and Memphis. Both of those schools have asked for deadline extensions multiple, multiple times. Both are using a delay tactic. Memphis thought it would have a good team this year, so they don't want a post season ban any time soon.
