College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

I'm watching the Boston College-Notre Dame game on ESPN and the Boston College uniforms have Heights written across the front.

Coolest unis I have seen in a while.

As a BC alum, thought that was cool as well, and we almost beat ND for a 2nd time this season! Alas, it was not to be.

I’m not saying it doesn’t work lol. It’s actually a terrible type of matchup for us.
Yeah those types of team will be challenging, however if they have an off night then it’s game over with the way we are playing right now. It’s a double edged sword sometimes whenever you shoot so many 3s.

Auburn just runs an NBA style offense. Jack 50 threes a game/hit 20 of them and use length to get long offensive rebounds. No creativity, just space and launch.

Auburn shot 3/25 from 3 against A&M and still nearly won by 20. They are 5-1 in their previous 6 games (not counting last night) and they shot less than 25% from the 3 in those games. They are a lot more well rounded than your typical team that lives/dies by the three.

Aside from Alabama, 5 of those teams aren’t known for their offense. You can shoot that poorly against Mizzou, UGA, and A&M and still win. You barely beat two of those. Alabama is a bad defensive team, and you shot 39 FT’s against them.

I understand they are more well-rounded, but if you have one of those nights against a better offensive team, it’s most likely going to result in a loss.

I'm too lazy to go look up stats but I read something recently that said Auburn's three point attempts this year are down from previous seasons.

By about 2 shots. They still shoot almost 26 per game. They can win games by relying on less 3’s, and I’m guessing their rebounding and defense at the rim have improved. But the last 6 isn’t the best indicator because they’ve played some bad offensive teams.

The addition of Kessler drastically changes the dynamic of their offense and offensive rebounding game.

Auburn does a great job with the pick and roll at the top of the key. When Kessler rolls to the basket, they have another player screen his guy and he gets lots of lob passes.

A&M is 63rd in adjusted defense. Tennessee is 4th. That would not happen against us.

Gentlemen, remember that team from last season? That team named Oregon State? That team that eliminated UT in the 1st round of the NCAAT?

Yeah….they’re 3-21…

no, that’s not their 3-point percentage on a bad night. They’ve won 3 games this season..

Too bad TN didn’t get to play this year’s team last year in the first round. Instead TN played the team that went 6-1 in the 2021 post season. The one that won the PAC-12 tournament and lost to Houston by 6 for a spot in the Final Four.

They were bad during the regular season last year. They had one of the most unlikely runs in the post season I can think of. Which is even more evidenced by this year as they returned much of their roster

3-21…Samford, Princeton, UC Davis, Tulsa…all losses

Almost everybody, but not their best player and the heart and soul of that team, Ethan Thompson. Plus, they have been decimated by injuries and only had 7 scholarship players in their last loss against Arizona. Still, that loss is the most disappointing in Tennessee NCAA Tournament history, imo. At least in my lifetime, in the 1st round. Definitely during Barnes tenure

Honestly for me in Barnes tenure, the most disappointing is still to Loyola Chicago. There was such a clear path to the Final Four if that damn ball didn’t bounce in, or if Kyle plays, or we make one more bucket, etc. I’d also put the Purdue loss above, cause I felt at the time that team could win a NC. I didn’t have that same belief with last years team

The Oregon State loss probably was to the worst team of the three though

Yeah, I started backtracking and posted during Barnes tenure in the first round.

Edit: still a very disappointing and embarrassing loss. I think I broke some sh!t, that day/night

yes but even that isn’t enough to account for a team that goes from the e8 one year to 3-21 the next.
