College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

They also got blown out at home by a .500 team. We’ve lost 1 home game as well but to a much better team. They have a better road record as that’s where 3 of our 4 losses come in but we’ve played a tougher schedule. In the kenpom ratings, at least from the parts you can see for free, it appears as if NCSOS is the entire difference. Surely we will jump them by the end if we both keep winning but it seems odd that NCSOS would carry that much weight, especially given Houston lost to the only good teams it played OOC.
Their one home loss is to Texas Tech by one point in overtime. Their other 3 losses were at neutral sites. Auburn was in Houston but at the Toyota Center.

They are ahead in KenPom because of their offensive efficiency. They are 8th while we are 33rd. We are 1st in defense, but they are 3rd. The difference in offense equates them being a couple of points higher in total.

I believe SOS numbers are just listed to delineate those so that people can see them. But the offensive and defensive numbers are adjusted for opponents.

I actually think Dubar should get more playing time. He can score. I think it's a mistake to keep him on the bench.
IMO, Dubar has hot and cold moments, he is a player and has his moments. I attribute it to his missing early on games and practices. He is slightly behind the power curve, but look for him to get into the groove and contribute in March.

Ah, that’s right. I mixed them up with Iowa State. Really, the offensive and defensive numbers take SOS into account? Interesting. I’d be curious to see how it does that. I read that update under “help” on kenpom. Ok, more like skimmed. He’s clearly into the analytics big time and even uses metrics of others in his formula, such as Sagarin. I take back what I said about passing Houston. I thought we were close to them in kenpom but we’re really not. We’re more than 2 full points behind them. Unless they lose again, maybe even twice, we won’t catch them.

Yep, one of those coming away with a loss and I'd say it needs to be Bama. They actually play twice this year.
Flordia and Alabama still have to play, too. 🙂
Bama has a road game at Texas and then their schedule finishes with 7 straight ranked teams, including 3 top 10 to finish. I believe they’ll lose 3 of those 7 but I also thought Auburn would beat Florida.

I don't think Auburn drops with their loss.

Duke at 19-3 could slide back a spot or two...but I don't think we jump them.

Bama loses and we jump them.

I think Florida jumps Houston though...not sure they'll jump us since we handled them last weekend and then went 2-0 beating a top 15 team and then dominate OU on the road.
Man, I don’t either. I’d switch Bama and Puke and keep us off but definitely still on the radar at 4. That’s a just the right amount of sweet spot for UT. Imo

I think we'll need another scorer.

Yeah, they have a tough road still left, but a lot of opportunity to lay claim to a #1 seed.
If we want a #1 seed, beating Bama at our house is a must win. Definitely glad that game is in Knoxville!

Good rebounder, shot blocker, still lacks on defense and hopes he gets his grove on his shot. I think he will with more playing time.
I think all he likes is for his shots to drop/ be a consistent scorer of about 8-10 points.
IMO, he's played pretty damn solid on Defense in the last 3 games (really 4, he did good against KY, too).
He really helped us in that Flordia game, tho. You seen what Thomas Haugh did against Auburn.
I agree he will/would improve with some more playing time. Just hope he gets some before Tournament time because we could really use some solid bench points.

AP is weird man...

Somehow Auburn blows out OU and loses at home to Florida and stays #1, as I expected.
Bama goes 2-0 against bottom feeders in the SEC and jumps to 2nd
Florida coming off a beating in Knoxville goes 2-0 and upset Auburn and jumps us
Duke goes 1-1 on the road against 2 unranked ACC teams and only drops 2 spots
Vols go 2-0 beating a top 15 team (at the time) and blowing out OU on the road...and we drop a spot

Duke over Tennessee is really the only surprise, to me.

Looks like they just went brain dead rankings by number of losses. Although I support FL higher than TN. We want them to ignore our 30 pt beatdown at FL but not ignore FL 20 point pummeling in Knoxville. Fact is they beat the No 1 team twice, once on the road.

After giving Florida a beat down without 2 of our starters along with our other impressive wins, I find them jumping us in the rankings very surprising?
I could make a case for either, but the antithesis to the bolded is that they beat us by even more at full strength and have two loud wins over #1 teams, including @Aub who we failed to beat in the same venue.

I see your point, but their home win was several weeks back whereas our home win was week before last and we went into this week ahead of Florida. IMO, our play this week was more than enough to hold our ranking.

Like many have said, it doesn’t matter and will shake out in the next couple weeks.

The good news though...most the SEC teams ahead of us have no more mid-week byes. We get ours before going to A&M

Florida should hold their spot, seems A&M and Alabama in their last 3 games will be the next real opportunity they take another L

Bama has the roughest stretch left
at Texas
vs Auburn
at Missouri
vs Kentucky
vs Miss State
at Tennessee
vs Florida
at Auburn

They are going to lose at least 2 of those games.

Auburn has a rougher remaining schedule than Florida, but not the same as Bama.

We honestly might be in the driver's seat a bit...at Kentucky tomorrow, then host Vandy Saturday...mid-week off before next Saturday at A&M then at LSU then host Bama then at Ole Miss and host South Carolina. So a few tough games left but things are spaced out and we are hitting that mid-week bye right before the final 5 to end the season.

If we can find a way to go 2-0 this week then that would be beautiful
