Title.

My wife and I are traveling from Jackson, TN. Look to be in the thick of the Ohio st side in 27C
Not sure if our seats but my son and I are coming from Middle TN. He is a sr @ UT and TN hasn’t lost a game he attended this yr, inc @ Oklahoma and NC State (Charlotte).

I booked a hotel and ordered tix from UT, though I may not make the cut for the offered 1000 tix. If not, I will buy a pair two days prior to game as prices will drop.

Columbus is a very drivable city and the OSU campus (and the Shoe) are only about four miles north of the Arena District and about five miles north of downtown. The highest quality hotels are downtown and in the Easton area, which is about 8 miles northwest of the Stadium.

There are great food options everywhere in Columbus. If you are looking for an upscale meal, the city's hottest new restaurant is The Butcher & The Rose downtown. Hyde Park Steak House between the Arena District and Short North is also top notch.

If you like German food at all, particularly wurst (sausage), you gotta hit up Schmidt’s. Been there for over 130 years. Great creampuffs and baked goods too: the vibe is like Litton’s but German food and even older. All of German village is pretty cool, there’s a huge and very neat bookshop there, the Book Loft. You can get a massive stack of pancakes for cheap and a burger that’s entirely too big for human consumption at the German Village Coffee Shop and the Thurman, respectively.

Hofbräuhaus is also pretty good, and they brew their own bier. Franchise of the same Hofbräuhaus that’s in Munich.

If you’re looking for breakfast or lunch, the North Market near downtown is really cool. Last time I went, my wife got Indian food and I got Polish. There’s a really solid chicken and waffles place, plus Hot Chicken Takeover, which isn’t really authentic Nashville hot chicken, but it’s still pretty tasty and they are a nonprofit I believe.

I would avoid the Short North. It’s fine, but it’s the trendy part of town and will be very crowded. Think Columbus’s version of Market Square. Grandview heights is pretty chill and has some nice restaurants and coffee shops, same for Bexley, on the east side of town. If you find yourself near Bexley in the morning, head to Stav’s Diner and get the challah French toast.

Anything outside the belt of interstate is going to be bland exurban wasteland, although the North side of town isn’t as bad as the other three directions. Westerville and Dublin are the ritzy areas.

If you have any kids or grandkids in the party, the Columbus Zoo is one of the best in the country, and it will be decorated for Christmas. They do a light show after 5 during the holidays. Not sure how many animals will be out, but they have some indoor exhibits, an aquarium section (with manatees) and the arctic foxes and the two Grizzly bears (names Brutus and Buckeye, naturally) will be out.

I'm coming from Florida with my wife and five "kids" - 10, 17, 19, 20 and 21. We are meeting up with some friends. We are staying in the German Village. Booked an Airbnb a couple days ago. There seems to be a good bit of choices - better than some towns - and prices not too bad.

What about tickets? Any thoughts?

Thanks and Go Vols!

If memory serves, there is a really good Spanish restaurant in German Village. That is a cool area.

I SHOULD be spending my dimes in Knoxville, I don't think I can bring myself to spend a single dime visiting Ohio Land Grant School.

ViBL should write travel books. I’ve been in Dublin for 14 years now and couldn’t have come close to being this thorough. Well done. Schmidt’s is the bomb. Hyde Park is my go to (although I go to the one in Dublin most often). GH has some good restaurants and a love affair with bologna sandwiches (don’t knock it). Stav’s in Bexley is great.

Absolutely second the notion to take your kids (grown or not) to the Columbus Zoo. For those of you with gray in your hair, you’ll remember Jack Hanna on the Tonight Show. The zoo was his baby. It’s outstanding and the lights at night are very well done.

Looking forward to seeing some more orange around here than normal. My phrase to my friends and family has always been “my wallet belongs to Ohio State, my heart belongs to Tennessee.” My daughter, who received her BA and masters from OSU, had better be very careful the next couple of weeks.

Coming from the TRI, seats are purchased by our friend group. I’ll have to check with them on exactly where but we usually try to get as close to our official sections as possible. Staying downtown at the Hilton (thank God for reward points - everything downtown is sky high right now)

Was up there for the NCAA in 2019 and had a blast. Great city. Go to Schmidt’s if you like German food or have any inclination that you might like German food. It’s phenomenal. Otherwise, spend time downtime in the Arena district, everything you could possibly want to do and more are there.
