Columbus: who’s going? Where are you coming from? Restaurants? Recommended accommodations

If you like German food at all, particularly wurst (sausage), you gotta hit up Schmidt’s. Been there for over 130 years. Great creampuffs and baked goods too: the vibe is like Litton’s but German food and even older. All of German village is pretty cool, there’s a huge and very neat bookshop there, the Book Loft. You can get a massive stack of pancakes for cheap and a burger that’s entirely too big for human consumption at the German Village Coffee Shop and the Thurman, respectively.

Hofbräuhaus is also pretty good, and they brew their own bier. Franchise of the same Hofbräuhaus that’s in Munich.

If you’re looking for breakfast or lunch, the North Market near downtown is really cool. Last time I went, my wife got Indian food and I got Polish. There’s a really solid chicken and waffles place, plus Hot Chicken Takeover, which isn’t really authentic Nashville hot chicken, but it’s still pretty tasty and they are a nonprofit I believe.

I would avoid the Short North. It’s fine, but it’s the trendy part of town and will be very crowded. Think Columbus’s version of Market Square. Grandview heights is pretty chill and has some nice restaurants and coffee shops, same for Bexley, on the east side of town. If you find yourself near Bexley in the morning, head to Stav’s Diner and get the challah French toast.

Anything outside the belt of interstate is going to be bland exurban wasteland, although the North side of town isn’t as bad as the other three directions. Westerville and Dublin are the ritzy areas.

If you have any kids or grandkids in the party, the Columbus Zoo is one of the best in the country, and it will be decorated for Christmas. They do a light show after 5 during the holidays. Not sure how many animals will be out, but they have some indoor exhibits, an aquarium section (with manatees) and the arctic foxes and the two Grizzly bears (names Brutus and Buckeye, naturally) will be out.
ViBL - this is fantastic and highly appreciated. Is the Short North location safe? We are staying at the Hyatt House Columbus / Short North and planned to walk to and from the game, just over a mile walk. Thank you in advance.

Thanks so much. I do like German food. Have to check it out.

I'd love to go, but I can't afford $1000 per ticket. I've already accepted that my days of going to football games are over. Common man just can't afford it anymore.
Wasn’t that bad when we got ours. Prices may fall as it gets closer to time.

I haven't been there yet, but Warios looks like it has some awesome sandwiches. Will be on DDD (not sure if the episode came out yet). Roosters is my favorite wing spot in Ohio.

I'm coming from Florida with my wife and five "kids" - 10, 17, 19, 20 and 21. We are meeting up with some friends. We are staying in the German Village. Booked an Airbnb a couple days ago. There seems to be a good bit of choices - better than some towns - and prices not too bad.

What about tickets? Any thoughts?

Thanks and Go Vols!
We also grabbed an airBNB. Looked fantastic on the pics. We went on stubhub for ours.

Yeah I think our group got ours at a little over $350/per for lower level near a section off from the visitor section. Right now, the prices are getting ridiculous but I would bet that it will start to level out and then reverse a bit as we get closer to game day.

My son and I will be traveling from Helena. Where did you get your tix? I looked on Vivid and Sear Geeks but I’m afraid to pull the trigger and be surrounded by all Buckeye fans. I would like to be with other Vol fans if possible.
Stub hub. We’re in a nest of Buckeyes it looks like. Don’t really care. Looking forward to visiting a historic stadium and beating their team.

Typically 8C (6C and 10C as well). That’s for a typical home game, I expect it will be the same for this one. I think they have a few other sections for visitor seating, it’s kind of chaos right now trying to figure out what’s what.

Found this online:

Visiting Team Fan Sections

Sections 6C, 8C, 10C, and 4AA-10AA are the designated visiting team sections at Ohio Stadium. Be aware that the visiting teams sit in rows 8 and higher (rows 8-41) in sections 8C and 10C.

2886 Airport Drive, Columbus, Ohio, 43219, USA
Embassy is a nice hotel I stay there a lot for business. About a 20 min drive from the stadium. Straight across the road from the airport maybe a 5 min drive to rental car lot max.

Technically we’re Medina tn. But no one outside of west Tennessee knows where that’s at.

No one outside of West Tennessee knows where Alamo is either
Hey fellow west TN-ers. I grew up in Milan several decades ago. Medina was just a tiny dinky pass-through hole in the wall back then. Just a place to pass through on your way to Jackson. Now it is the place to be for suburbia and good schools. How times have changed.

Used to be a bunch of corn fields when I was in college. We mainly landed here for the school system.

It’s totally safe, and has a lot of shopping/dining, just heavy traffic and everything is going to be pretty pricey. It’s very much the trendy area. Some folks love it, and you might as well. I just never spent a lot of time there when I lived in Cbus. As a frame of reference, I’m more of an Old City guy than a Market Square guy when I’m in Knoxville, though I can see the appeal of Market Square (and the Short North, for that matter).

Edit: Saw that you said you’re planning to walk. In that case, you’re golden. Short North is a great choice given you won’t be having to drive everywhere. The only annoyances you might have are road construction here and there, haven’t been there in a few years. I also had a guy try to sell my wife and another woman we were with roses on the street. Annoying but harmless. Anything you can’t find on High Street in Columbus you probably don’t need, except for good barbecue. 😉
