I went back to Comcast after a while of AT&T, personally I think AT&T does better with actual television, but even with the enhanced internet package the UVerse lags behind. Using the old copper pairs just doesn't do the job
Nothing wrong with copper lines. Bonded lines and VDSL capabilities give you much better speeds than traditional though. Fiber is obviously where everyone is going which will create equality among all providers with internet.
