Comitee bias

It goes both ways. Marquee programs get a little boost.
The Lady Vols are a marquee program and probably made the tourney a couple times in the last ten years because of the name.

So the NCAA comes out today and says Tennessee is the 5th Best team in the nation, but they are somehow a 3 seed, not even the top 3 seed

My question is, can anything be done about this in the off-season? Can the committee be sued by Tennessee?

I know it sounds ridiculous but what occurred the other day was criminal

Suing doesn’t just sound ridiculous, it is ridiculous.

I think there definitely is an anti-SEC bias that results from jealousy over football.

Doesn't matter. They're right where thay want to be. Flyng in a little under the radar. Maybe not taken as seriously as they would have been at a 1 or 2. Maybe even a little chip on their shoulder. Best I've felt about a team going into post season in many long moons. Shed the Monkey coach.

Boo hoo hoo. just tough it out and win some ncaa tournament games get to sweet 16 or elite 8. Just maybe then we will get enough respect to get a higher seat next time.
heck there is so little difference between a 2 or 3. More important is where you play imo.

No one ever said winning the conference counted more than any other neutral win. Part of the problem is we beat Texas AM, who has a NET ranking of 43, 2 spots higher than UAB and 3 spots higher than North Texas. We beat an NIT team at a neutral site. Had Auburn been in the final and we beat them than we would have another high quality win at a neutral site.

Beating A&M was a Q1 win. That had nothing to do with it. They decided that anything over the weekend wasn’t going to change much of what they had already seeded.

Just As simple as it can Be.....
Look at their Bracket Reveal 4 weeks ago and look at it Sunday.
What Changed?
Not Much. This was hard headed lazy administrators that set the bracket then and just move teams around in the top 8
Not much changed

LAZY Work...

Facts.

It was shocking to see Joe Lunardi just completely avoid the obvious.

I thought his answer was strange at the time but actually he was just telling the truth. The conference tournament does not count toward seeding. The decisions have already been made and the only changes will be non-seeded teams winning automatic bids, which puts someone like TAM out.

I'm not sure all that goes into seeding. But, historically I am certain that it's not A.) Rank all 68 teams in order of strength B.) Divide by 4 to determine seed C.) Round robin placement in each bracket.
Other factors go into it like geography, avoiding conference rematches etc etc. Never is the bracket without plenty of "Team X shoulda been in before Team Y" and "Team A has no biz being seeded above/below Team B".
It's as if the #1 seeds are like the CFB best picks. After that things get moved around"unfairly" based on all the other criteria. Most likely Coach K Farewell/UK draw B$ contributed to our 3 seed. But, it happens all over the bracket too, every year. Remember Pearls 2nd team that got that #2 Seed? That was shocking for us ... and most certainly pi$$ed a bunch of teams off. And we ended up going home early anyway

I love where we landed. Play our game and we could win it all. Play mediocre and we'll go home early. If you want to win the Championship then you'd better be prepared to beat ANYONE. It's that simple.

This is next time. I say get to the finals and play Duke there and give Coach K a nice sendoff with an L. Of course my bracket didn't have Duke lasting that long, but a guy can dream, can't he?

The Selection Committee hosed us. Since they were hell-bent on giving us a 3 seed, they should have rewarded us by allowing us to play against an undeserving 2-seed Duke team.

I beleive the selection committee looks at the conference tournaments as adjusting for teams that wouldn’t have made the NCAA tournament unlesss they won their conference. That can already have a big affect on the field. If they had to adjust for those teams who wouldn’t have made it but for winning, as well as, moving teams up/down based on the results, it would be giving too much value to the conference tournament while also devaluing the regulars season.

Don’t get me wrong, I still believe we deserve the 2, but thinking about it more today, led me to this conclusion and why the selection committee did what it did.
This is what the chair of the selection committee essentially said in his interview on CBS after the selections were announced. The problem is that is this year’s approach, next year they may go a completely different direction. As a result, schools and conferences have no way to plan. A very arbitrary process indeed.

If we were a 2 seed people would still complain that we weren't a 1 seed or that we should have been ranked ahead of some other 2 seed.

If we were a 1 seed people would complain about us having the toughest bracket of all the 1 seeds.

It really doesn't matter as some of yall are just waiting to be offended. I actually think we got a pretty good path which is something I care way more about than the actual seed itself. We aren't hanging banners for being a 2 seed so a 2 or 3 really doesn't matter that much. Us playing our best ball in March is what matters and that is exactly what we are doing.

I agree that this is the approach that the coach and the players should have. However, when Kentucky has an identical record to Tennessee, and did not win anything, and did not have the same strength of schedule, and was 1 - 2 against us, and lost to Auburn, it is a no-brainer that Tennessee should be above them. There is more than that to argue, but that, to me is indefensible.

Yes, I like our path as well as anyone's, but still we need to stop people thinking they can take advantage of us like this. The AD needs to get busy, and not stop until we get what we deserve.
