Comments on UT from the Scott Van Pelt Show

If you didn't watch yesterday's game, you missed on hell of a good game. It was edge of the seat excitement at it's height. Watching the football team can be frustrating, as well. Jut be a Vol fan and turn the tube on and support them. If you can't bring yourself to do that, maybe pick another team?

Well, I couldn't watch the whole game yesterday because I was working. I caught bits and pieces of it, and I did see the last minute and a half.

It's not that I don't want to watch the games, it's just that I get too frustrated while watching. I normally listen to them on the radio instead so I don't see the horrible calls by the refs, the lazy offense, the turnovers, etc. It just gets too frustrating for me. Sorry if you think that means I'm not a real fan, but that's what I feel like I have to do...for my health...

That basketball team (and the terrible SEC refs) just makes me want to throw things. I do watch replays of the games any chance I get. But watching it live is too frustrating for me.

That might be the case, but he's just regurgitating media tripe from a couple years ago, when it was probably true.

Last years team & this years team ( up until the incident on New Years ) just didnt play with heart or the scrapiness it did with Pearls first few teams.

I'm anxious to see if this team will continue to use a chip on their shoulder for the rest of the season & play with that heart & scrapiness they have showed in the past few games. If they can this team will be dangerous to but if they cant they wont be much of a factor come March.

Interesting comments from the co-host Ryen on this show: He basically said that UT is one of the most frustrating teams to watch because their halfcourt offensive sets are horrible and painful to watch but that they give maximum effort and more effort than the opponent 99% of the time.

I couldn't agree more-----But that was not the case vs Kansas. I saw a lot of improvement in the half-court--more driving the lane and going to the hoop. Still needs work-----along with the FT's, but I now have hope.

Isn't it ironic though, that out of a positive (Beating the #1 team) there are some that look for a negative. :ermm:

Surely you didnt watch.

Oh hell yes I did. And they were jacking up threes, but Scotty and Maze were driving more, too. Vols' HC certainly looked better than Kansas's. The defenses had a lot to do with offensive execution. Take an aspirin--big papa---you've given ME a headache.

I disagree. The only difference between the half-court offense in the Kansas game and the half-court offense in every other game is that (a) we were hitting the three, and (b) Hopson started taking it to the rack.

We won't be able to rely on Swiperboy getting hot like that every game, because it's just not going to happen. Hopson, on the other hand, can play at that level every single game if he so chooses. He is explosive.

Apparently your principles were short lived. Maybe you need more headaches.

Big losses doesn't mean beatdowns. It means losing to an underachieving Oklahoma State team in the first round when we had the exact same team as this year, basically

We were very comparable to that Ok. State team in both wins and conference standing.

Where do you get this from. UT lost 10 or eleven games last year and I can't remember the seed but it was an 8-10 or something. Did you think we were goin to the Final 4. WOW!!!

Hold up. All the excuse making regarding our early exits has been about matchups. Now that we lost a very, very favorable matchup situation they no longer matter? I'm confused.

The difference in the team is Tyler Smith isn't clogging up the offense and Bobby Maze has started becoming a true point. Maze was driving, making good passes and forcing the action.

Uh, I was expecting us to get past the first round. That's not crazy is it? 10 of OSU's wins came against teams like Ark. St., Mercer, Northwestern St., North Texas, Texas-San Antonio, etc. So their record could be a little misleading.

He is right Prince and sometime Chism looks like they dont care. You see Prince before the start of the Memphis game.

Yea but.........

We just beat the number 1 team in the country with 6 scollies and 3 wo's --- it must be working a little bit. Regardless of the offense, I think most coaches would take 16 assists, 8 turnovers against the number 1 team in the country.

You could also make the analogy that the Alabama football offense lacked imagination, was predictable, didn't flow well, and wasn't balanced against Texas so Saban is not a very good coach. He just caught some breaks defensively and I don't think Alabama will ever get to where they want to be in football.

Tyler standing at the top of the key doing that little leg kick/feint, then working the ball around some more, then doing it again, etc. I love the good things Tyler did for this program, but it feels like now a blockage has been removed from the Vols' basketball arteries. Much better flow. Penetration, cutters, backdoor passes, everybody in motion.

People are not waiting for a scorer to step up, they realize it has to be them!

He obviously knows what he talkin about. It went from bad Half-court defense to bad half-court offense. We do give 100% every single time we step on the court.

hell no. he's right about halfcourt O. the KU game was the ONLY game we gave 110% for the whole game.

not purdue.. not memphis... not even close to the kind of effort they played with vs KU.

We don't give 100% when Chism's jackin' threes when we're down, or up by 5 pts. That's lazy.
Now when he launches them when we're up 25, go for it. Because that's when he usually makes them.

Oh, and I chuckled a little when some schmuck on ESPNRadio in Memphis said, "with a name like Skylar McBee, you HAVE to be a walk-on"...

I can't even tell what the score is listening to the radio much less who fouled or scored.
