...and that's precisely my point. You advocate that the government continue to look the other way because they're not living in YOUR state. As a result, you're not having to pay higher taxes to pay for the education and health care of illegal immigrants, and you're not having to pay higher insurance premiums due to illegal immigrants that don't carry car insurance.

I heard last week that one group estimates that as much as 1/3 of the population of the state of Arizona is illegal immigrants. That was a figure that I found to be quite alarming. Arizona leads the nation in illegal border crossings.

All academic studies concerning the issue seem to concur on the fact that not only do illegal workers pay taxes, but since they cannot file for tax returns they actually contribute more to the government in terms of revenue.

They are not exactly getting rewarded for ignoring that law though. They are working labor intensive jobs and getting aroun $3.50 an hour for those jobs.

Which is probably 10 times what they would make in their home country. :dunno:

Also keep in mind that the 2nd biggest industry for Mexico is money transfers from the US. It comes from all the Mex workers sending it back to their families. I was in the construction business in AZ so I saw it first hand. There are guys sleeping in their cars while making $60K. They work very hard for 9 months and go back to Mex for 3 and live like kings. I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it.

I highly doubt the previous posters stat that 1/3 of all in AZ are illegal. AZ leads in illegal crossings (I've heard 30,000/mo at the peak season) but they also have to lead in deportations. Sheriff Joe in Phoenix is the last true lawman in the US. There were constant news stories about raids on illegals that were carried out. Tent city may also be the best idea for a jail ever.

Illegals purchase goods constantly. They buy groceries, clothing, gasoline, cars, etc. They pay the taxes on all of those which go back into the system both at the federal and state level. And as was mentioned above, they do not file income taxes so the two way receipt that we citizens enjoy is not one they benefit from.

They do pay into the system. Any line of thinking that says they do not pay taxes and thus should be shunned on many services is a ludicrous one. They clearly pay into the state tax structure which Medicaid falls into. So healthcare is covered by their own contributions into the system.

If you have a problem with illegals stealing jobs, then you need to go around rounding up the patriotic, flag-waving American citizens that employ them. Those Americans are the ones clearly breaking the laws and cheating the tax system. THEY are the ones not filing 1099's or filing payroll taxes. But no one has touched any of them. it is too convenient to chase after the little Latino with no rights than it is to actually punish the Americans breaking American laws.

Wow, CSpin and I actually agree on something (at least the first two paragraphs.)

I just don't agree that anyone should be viewed in a criminal light either for working illegally or hiring illegals.

Note I said "If you have a problem..." That was directed at the ones who are rabidly against illegals and want to ship them all back. I didn't imply that was my personal belief.

It's not necessarily a matter of paying into the system. Services are often granted based on meeting certain standards (e.g. income level) and following certain rules (e.g. selective service). Since these people fall outside the guidelines they technically are not legally eligible for the services.

Further, the services are budgeted based upon demand from qualifying recipients. When there is a large number of illegals also receiving the services, the system becomes quite strained. To deliver these services to all those qualified plus the illegals often means higher taxes for other citizens. At a minimum, those citizens should have a say in the process.

I've never seen anyone sleeping in their car in AZ, and I lived there for 4 years. And how do you know if they are illegal or not, unless they decided to tell you, or do you go around checking their immigration papers?

What hispanic workers like to do is rent a 2-3 bedroom apartment and sleep 3 people in a room, 6-9 people in an apartment. I saw them doing that in South Carolina when I lived there, they do that all over the United States, you don't have to live in AZ to see that. They buy all their groceries, cook all their meals in their room, thats how they save money, on room and board.

They wash, and bathe and are clean etc, I don't know what you are implying about them sleeping in their car. If you talking about living in an RV lots of people do that, its not limited to illegal immigrants.
