I got this same virus twice now on work computer. Its a nasty little bugger and our IT guys can't remove it. I have a feeling I wont get to look at VN anymore at work lol.

Malwarebytes free version will remove it. Seems your IT people are clueless.

Run Malwarebytes and Combo Fix in safe mode. Problems usually solved. Some of these virus writers are extremely clever. Google your issue and read what others have done. 99% of the time they have it solved with instructions. Formatting/re-imaging is always a last resort.

It's a trojan. It's jumping files. Hard to track down. As soon as you kill it one spot it gets into another file. I'm running a scan right now and have found it again. Damn thing gets on my computer every time i login. I seem to be able to remove it everytime, but it's getting annoying.

i've gotten viruses 3 times while browsing here. i don't open ads, only threads. the last one was the XP2012. i could not ditch it even with malwarebytes. my IT boys got rid of it, said that they were able to tell that it came from a forum but not which forum.

viruses are a real PITA. i can't see how the dbags who make them get off on it.

anyway, i won't be visiting VN anymore except on my mac.

I've been doing some troubleshooting but this seems to be hit or miss with some reportedly having issues and some having none. If anything, it could be coming from an ad script. If anyone has any more details, please pass them along.

I'm disabling some recent additions to our ad rotation to see if that makes a difference.

Disable system restore. Go here and download and run
Download Trojan Remover

Yeah i had a phony xp 2012 antivirus program come on my screen the other day. Tried to get me to buy it. Bascially locked up my computer. Just restart and quickly go to system restore before it catches on and restore to a early date. Then make sure you update your antivirus protection before you browse anymore.
Got the same one from here on my laptop. It sucks. Guess I'm going to have to take it in.

Came back last night
here's the info I get from Malaware when it runs:

Trojan.fakeav file
Trojan.fakeav memory process
Trojan.fakeav file
Trojan.fakeav file
Hijack.exefile Registry Value
Pum.hijackexe Registry Data

I also had a seperate pop up saying:
WIN 7 Anti Spyware 2012 Alert
IM-Worm.WM32.kelvir.k

Hope this helps

I got it from VN I'm almost positive. The thing is a pain in the ass to remove and I'm still working on it.. Having to post this from my iPhone. Needless to say from now on I'll be surfing volnation on my phone until its fixed.

I think I got one from VN too, when a pop-up zoomed across the screen. It was that security win 12 crap iirc. I just restored to a week earlier for the quick fix.

I run Avast and have no problems..odd that it such a hit and miss kinda thing. Did get a Trojan here once from a thread but Malwarebytes got rid of it.
