With all the talk of the SEC adding a few new schools to the mix, what are the possibilities that the SEC will realign the EAST and WEST divisions of the conference?

It would be a damn shame not to get a shot at Alabama every year...

I offered on another thread that the SEC could go north and south with their divisions instead of east and west if they add 2 teams from the big 12. You could configure it so that its pretty balanced. For instance:

North:

Oklahoma
Arkansas
Vandy
Tennessee
Kentucky
Georgia
Alabama

South:

A&M
LSU
Ole Miss
Miss St
Auburn
Florida
South Carolina

The possibility of realignment is 100%. It may not even be E/W but could be N/S or even more like the Big 10 (of 12) that went almost random with "Legends" and "Leaders." Adding 1 or more will result in at least some realignment. Nobody knows what the result will be but the panic buttons are being pressed through the Vol Nation.

No way Oklahomo leaves the Big 12.

I disagree (kind of). I don't think there will necessarily be any realignment. IMO, the only thing that still makes geographical sense is to add A&M and Mizzou (should they come along, too) to the West, and add FSU and Clemson to the East (should they come along). To me, a North-South divisional alignment is pointless, since there will be no teams more north than KY and MO. It makes much more sense for East-West. Personally, I see it going to an ultimate addition of 4 teams total, keeping the East/West alignment.

And my own caveat: I would much rather have Georgia Tech back in the SEC than either FSU or Clemson, and would also prefer UNC as the other team. But I see that if FSU (or possibly Clemson) leaves, then ultimately UNC may have a chance at the ACC title with less conference competition and would therefore choose to stay in the Almost Competitive Conference.

I think it will be East and West as North is too weird, it is the Southeast Conference, not Northeast Conference.

I could see something like SEC-Inland and SEC-Coastal, or SEC-Timberland and SEC-Seaside, or something along those lines.

If we are just adding two schools then you put one in the west and one in the east. If we take four, two from west and two from the east then they would be put accordingly. Thank and I will not charge you for such expert analysis. I'm just a nice guy.

Don't think alot of people in the south would like being associated with the north

having 4 subdivisions of 4 teams each has also been discussed as a possibility... will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Why is north weirder than west? It is the SouthEASTERN Conference.

I agree but, OU has more NC's than Texas but sooner or later they will get tired of Texas's sh!t. JMO. Both team have lost a rival. Texas loses A&M and OU has lost Nebraska. All they have now is each other. Boom goes the dynamite.

If FSU, Clemson or GA.Tech don't become members, and Teaxas A&M joins, is it possible to get VPI, BC or another team from up in the Northeast? Heard teams mentioned like Rutgers, but don't see them joining. Don't see the Sooners joining the SEC after being long term members of the Big 8/12. How about Syracuse? Will they stay in the Big East? 13 teams doesn't do the conference good. Need 14 to make it even for each division. Guess we'll know before Labor Day at the latest.

However they decide to realign...Would we still get to play our biggest rivals year in and year out without meeting them in the championship game??

As someone else put it:

For the millionth time, OU comes only if you take OSU as well.

OU is tied to the hip, by their own choice, to OkSt. They're not going anywhere without them (just like the NC schools)

If and when enough where to happen for that conference to fall apart, OkSt would follow OU hand in hand to the Pac-12

If the school is in a state that didn't secede from the Union then they shouldn't be allowed to be a part of the SEC. College Football is the sport of the South.
