It's an early morning at work and I've got some free time. Let's compare UAB, Memphis, Georgia, and Alabama, because all four are in heavy contention for those last four at-large spots.
UAB: 30 RPI, 1 Top 50 win, 10 Top 100 wins, 28 conf. RPI, 53 N/C RPI, 0-2 vs. Memphis, best N/C win vs. VCU (51 RPI)
Memphis: 31 RPI, 2 Top 50 wins, 12 Top 100 wins, 26 conf. RPI, 65 N/C RPI, 2-0 vs. UAB, best N/C win at Gonzaga (59 RPI)
Alabama: 78 RPI (as a reminder: no at-large team has never made the field with an RPI higher than 74), 4 Top 50 wins, 5 Top 100 wins, 14 conf. RPI, 232 N/C RPI, best N/C win was vs. Lipscomb (131 RPI), 2-0 vs. UGA
Georgia: 46 RPI, 3 Top 50 wins, 5 Top 100 wins, 54 conf. RPI, 55 N/C RPI, best N/C win vs. UAB (30 RPI), 0-2 vs. Bama
This is going to be an interesting decision for the committee as to which two/three of these teams to take. Do you leave out a team with a 30 RPI? Do you leave out Memphis with a 31 RPI? Do you let in a team who had a horrid OOC schedule when you've condemned bad scheduling in years past? Do you let the statistically better team in even though they've lost twice to that team?
I believe Memphis has the edge on everyone else, but it's no guarantee. They'd be doing themselves a huge favor to win today against UTEP.
