i fail to see what is so shocking about a Catholic kid wanting to go to a Catholic college.

It's amazing isn't it? Golden Tate and Harrison Smith going to ND did not make me lose any sleep nor did it point to shortcomings in recruiting here at UT.

At least to me it didn't.

There was some talk around Knoxville that Harrison was being pressured to go to ND by his father. Had he had his choice, he may have been considering the Vols with more vigor.

But having said that, I'm didn't lose any sleep when he went to ND.

I saw Harrison Smith and Dennis Rogan last year playing in high school. I was more blown away by Rogan's talent than I was at Smith. If we had lost Rogan, that would have been more of a concern...

maybe his father did. maybe he didn't. do we know this for sure, for 100% fact? no we don't.

fact of the matter is he is now at ND regardless and it doesn't really matter, yet people STILL need to take shots at an 18 years old kid for going to a college.

I'm with you man. Look at all the guys on our roster that picked us over a home town/ home state school. Are Gerald Jones, Erik Ainge, Peyton Manning, Lennon Creer, etc sellouts or whatever you all want to call these guys?

Uhh... I think his father came out and openly said he didn't want his son playing for Fulmer.

Look... we don't need to rehash that old news. Fact is, I'm neither happy nor sad about Smith not coming here. Pretty apathetic about it, but his father was the reason for him going there.

Wouldn't bother me if he came back but he would have to work to get any playing time, especially in two years after these other young guys get more expierenced.

He is a dentist in the Knoxville area if I recall correctly. Tate plays, yeah, but I haven't seen Smith yet. He'd be playing for us right now, I almost guarantee you.

No he wouldn't. He's not playing at ND and they have won ONE game. He made a good choice. We didn't need him anyway

I'm with Doozer on this one.

The kid grew up playing football and had the opportunity to leave his hometown for an academically-superior college that just so happens to also be one of the most historically-storied football programs in the country.

I know some locals feel snubbed because a kid left K-town and a floundering program that isn't even relevant on the national scene at the current, and I know that he takes heat for being pressured by his dad. . . .

But, I've left Tennessee before for a change in scenery, and I can only pray that my sons will listen to me if I ever try to offer life-changing advice.

So, good luck to Harrison, and come back home whenever you're ready.

I remember being fairly disappointed last year but to carry that disappointment around for a year or more and let it manifest in a salt in the wound taunt seems a bit INSANE. Maybe someone needs a few shock treatments.

Yeah, a kid who is never going to get a sniff from the NFL chooses to go to a superior academic school. You guys are right, just a terrible decision.

His size and speed are actually strong enough to consider the NFL at least a possibility. I have seen him in person, out of pads. He is big enough that with his speed you would think he could possibly make it at OLB. But I have not seen him play. Is his actual play between the lines not in-line with his athletic ability?

On a day when your hometown Volunteers place another stone in the road they are paving toward an SEC Championship berth, your Domers drop the second straight game to a service academy are 1-10 and headed for the worst season on record. Great choice.

And hey, Jimmy! Thanks for affirming my joy at not having another Clausen wear a UT uniform.

GBO.

Good job! Way to rip on an 18 yr. old.

In today's world of college football, you also have to make decisions based on where you think you can get the quickest and most abundant play time. Maybe he or his father felt like his best chance also happened at Notre Dame. Any way, I don't care about Smith's decision to leave Knoxville, but I certainly don't lose sleep over Notre Dame's record. I was tired of having to hear about how great they are after watching them flame out in every bowl game they've played in practically the past decade. Long story short, as a fan, I'm laughing at Notre Dame, but not the individual players.

he's a Catholic kid. i had probably 5 people in my class at Catholic High who went to ND specifically because 1. they were Catholic (duh) 2. their parent(s) went to ND 3. or they had family there.

i fail to see what is so shocking about a Catholic kid wanting to go to a Catholic college.

I am not shocked when he chose ND. It's just ND makes me sick. I am tired of the hearing "ND is the American's team", and that fat bastard is a "offense genius" so on and so forth. Man, I want to puke.

BTW, is the owner of NBC a catholic?

As far as TS and BW go...

1) TS chose Iowa during a coaching change @ UT, you can hardly blame a kid for that.

2) I don't want Brandon Warren back. I will feel the exact same about him that I do HS. It will take all I've got to even put my hands together hard enough to clap for him.

Finally, I don't blame HS for choosing the superior academic school, I"m merely saying that if a kid from Knoxville feels loyalty to another school over the one he grew up miles from, then I don't see him giving UT 100%.
