Congratulations, Ms. Palin ....

I am having trouble framing a response because, in my mind, being smarter does sort of make him more qualified than she is.

It is not the only thing, of course.

There has always been a resistance to intellectualism from the right. From the Scopes Monkey trial to "I can see Russia from my house" and then the guffaws that arose from it, the right has resisted science and change, as though here is some sort of preordained destiny for the country.

There isn't. We've got huge problems and a changing dynamic and demoraphic and there is so much aversion to that. Under the guise of "traditional values" people are clinging to a lifestyle is that is no longer realistic and is in many ways unjust and immoral.

This anti-intellectualism backlash which has permeated the right wing of late seems more deeply rooted than before. The rise of someone like Palin to such a position of prominence is disturbing, even to the intellectual wing of the right. And that's not just because of concern that she might actually one day run the government. Its because it signals a rejection of relying on our wits to save us, as opposed to adherence to some vague ideal that is no longer rational.

Cliff Notes: Being smart is a legitimate factor to disucss in a POTUS wanna be. And at some point the absence of intelligence is a disqualifier.

if Obama is so smart then why is he failing so miserably?

being smart isn't quantifiable. so unless palin and obama release their iq scores this is a stupid debate. remember kerry was supposed to be a genius before we found out his grades were worse than bush. you said palin was less qualified. i'm talking about qualifications. actual accomplishments. let's hear how obama is superior there.

Borrowed from the Urban Dictionary.

"An Educated Idiot is a person that went to college, but is dumber than a rock. The Educated Idiot feels like he/she is smart, but they screw up everything they get involved in."

It fits well.

Gee, you think the circumstances of the economy might have a little something to do with the perception that he's failing?

Hold on a sec while I go find all the threads that say that the government has very little to do with how the economy fares....Oh, heck, just go read any of the economics threads in here.

I meet people and after a little while get a sense of whether they are bright, engaged, observant, careful, and think before they speak.

I guess Palin having been governor of Alaska and then quit makes her better than a two year Senator in your world. Not in mine.

i assume you haven't met either palin or obama? therefore all you have to go on are public interviews and speaches. by that theory brad pitt is the smartest man on teh planet.

yes actually running a town and a state trumps runing for president and showing up for 30% of your senate votes.

40% of people polled at the elections said they voted republican because they were against the healthcare bill. let's not act like obama's agenda has nothing to do with his poll numbers.

Careful wording.

The health care push may very well sink Obama's ship, even if the voting population has a short memory.

Many Americans are fed up with the rhetoric from Washington. They are tired of having policy forced down their throats, even if they aren't entirely sure how it impacts them directly.

Obama may be smart, but he isn't listening. That is a mark of arrogance.

I don't like Palin for the same reason. She comes off arrogant and unprofessional. Her little tiff between the Alaskan governor and his perceived slight was the straw that broke my back[ing].

Either she can't control her husband, or he was doing her bidding. Either, came off arrogant, childish and unprofessional. At least to me.

I just don't think she is ready to run this country. We don't need another unqualified President.

This is just brilliant: Palin Pales In Comparison To Dem Gems - Investors.com

one of the many gems:

Vice President Joe Biden's 1988 quest for the presidency evaporated when he plagiarized a speech by a British politician. When someone questioned his academic credentials at a campaign stop, the offended Biden claimed that he had a full academic scholarship at law school and graduated in the top half of his class. In fact, he had a need-based half-scholarship and graduated near the bottom — 76th out of 85.

She knows absolutely nothing about foreign policy, economics, the Congress, the courts, the intelligence community, and on and on.

Nothing.

Link?

And I wonder if anyone asked them why they are aganst it?

And I wonder if anyone asked them what they proposed to do when Medicare and the current health insurance system absolutely wreck the economy in less than ten years.

She would be an unmitigated disaster as POTUS. Probably give up at the first tough moment.

None of that is surprising.

They'll argue that they paid their dues for it.
