And, you are a Tennessee fan, err....guess not

Sorry, I do want the LVs to do well, but since I live in Connecticut I am a die-hard Husky fan as you and everyone else here is a die-hard Tennessee fan. It's just that sometimes it bothers me about some of the comments about UConn. If nobody here likes them, fine, but some people are so disrespectful about our program, and some of them tend to make things up. I usually just move on and ignore some of the comments, so my bad for just putting it all out there. Having said that, I do still stand up to the portal thing, meaning that no school can continually stay good by raiding the portal year after year without recruiting HS players that can be developed in the LV system and build chemistry which I think is the main ingredient for a well-run team. The last 3 years UConn has taken a player transfer to fill a need mostly brought on by injuries, so I'm not saying they don't, but recruiting multiple players every year will not bring a NC. This years UConn team can go unbeaten if injuries don't continue, and everyone of the 14 that are on the roster were recruits from HS. There is no reason Tennessee can't do the same, but something has to change with the recruiting, or the coaches that are doing the recruiting. BTY, I am ready for the negative comments that will follow this post. Believe me, I am not the enemy here, just someone who cares and hopes that your program will revive themselves to greatness again.

I understand your situation and dilemma more than you could possibly consider.
consider:
  • I believe females are more capable than they themselves think they are.
  • I teach them moves and mentalities done by male professionals and have the expectations of them being able to duplicate them
  • I reward performance on the practice court and game court,,,and am not influenced by my individual personal feelings or relationship within my teams
  • I see piss poor acceptance of mechanics being taught all the way through the upper echelon programs (missed bunnies, flipping instead of placing a layup, two-hand releases on jump-hooks, acceptance of high turnovers, etc) and know that it is not a reflection of their inabilities, it is a reflection of their coaching and teachers.
  • I am an admitted full-on Alpha male coaching females exclusively
  • I believe in myself enough to say I am the best skills and mechanics coach...Period!
Now, who do I have as a male coach with similar attributes and personal considerations to be my example to follow?
The male coach most despised in this vicinity...Geno Auriemma.
Thus my dilemma.

Re the portal...It isn't what it was.
It is now an opportunity for elite players to move much easier to more competitive environments and it is in its infancy in that respect.
So kudos for Coach Kellie to realize this NOW and not later.
At some point it will slow down and even out, but right now the portal is a quick fix and TN LV's needed such a fix and would not put up with any coach who couldn't do it.
Kellie is doing what she had to to get back in the top tier and is now much more prominent and focused on HS recruiting.

People here know me and I don't sugar-coat for Coach Kellie, so if I am complimenting her on something, it is not as a fan or as an opportunity to blow smoke up her proverbial behind...It is because she deserves the accolade.

I respect all your posts because I know most, if not all, comes from personal experience. I have been a Kellie supporter since she was hired, and I have even mentioned that on the Boneyard. She is a disciple of Pat, so the Knowledge she has comes from a great place. I just think she may have to step back and look at her assistants' performances as far as recruiting and make decisions based in her brain and not her heart. Tennessee is not that far removed from the glory years, but even though the recruit may not remember that, their parents sure do. Back when Pat was coaching the portal didn't exist, but she was able to corral some of the best players in the country. Thanks to the portal now, Kellie has the opportunity to make a statement so the HS kids out there will see Tennessee is once again becoming a player in the WBB world that can do what SC, LSU, UConn, and Stanford have done in recent years. The portal will not be as lucrative in the future as it is now, so the team has to perform this year to let everybody know that the NC trophy can be earned at Tennessee. HS recruits are the answer, so the priority going forward is to somehow rectify the problem of why they aren't coming. Easier said than done, but as I seemed to infer, maybe a change by Kellie with her staff is needed.

I will be doing something different this year too
Last year I created a turnover report that I used to go through each turnover and assess it "forced", "unforced" or "shoulda been a no call"
and I think more pressure/visibility/emphasis was put on limiting unforced and foolish turnovers as proven by statistics
21-22 avg 16.6
22-23 avg 15.2

This year I am going to do "Bunny reports" for games of high-count missed layups.
I will go through the game and for each layup attempt in that game I will include:
  • the time/Qtr
  • describe the setup/situation
  • assess: it as makeable or well-defended
  • missed-made
for every layup
It should be interesting

I like to see things through a prism of fairness...... As UConn men showed this past year..... teams needcn't necewssarily be from a big conference to show hoops strength...... and UConn played some tuff teams, including Alabama and Brandon Miller....... As for continuing playing them..... I have always been against it. yes as has been pointed out.... matchup came back from the coaches..... encouraged by television..... but i do not care about what coaching rivalries wree in effect 20 years ago...... it does not matter now

Layups are bad at UT

If we dumped them and forced them into primariy staying within their own conference for competition, it's reasonable to believe the Louisville's, ND's, and South Cackcalack's would do the same. There's nothing good for anyone but UCONN playing them out of conference during the midst of conference games. Vug UCONN.
I like that SC plays Uconn……they beat up on us for years, but I’m confident it helped fuel the fire that forced SC to get to their level. Sometimes you just have to take some beatings to get where you need to be. I would not want my fav team to drop an annual matchup against a team like Uconn after a long losing streak…..we all know how that gets read.

A lot of folks look at the LSU path last season and think that is the new formula. LSU got a bunch of help in the tourney with their bracket and the higher ranked teams dropping eggs in their games, but it really isn’t a traditional path for success. Anyway, every team should do their own thing I suppose. I’m not dogging anyone, but I like playing against Uconn every season.

IMO, if CT has everyone back and healthy they're highly likely to go undefeated this coming season.
I’m not ready to go there, but yeah, if all are healthy they are gonna be really tough to beat. It’s all about PB of course. If we get her freshman version watch out. At 100%, she is still the best player in the country.
