Connecticut

I would be surprised if UConn went with a special defense like Alabama did. I think a box or diamond and one is difficult to learn in a few days. I think Alabama had been practicing their special defense for a while in secret hoping it would have the shock effect it did when they met our LV’s. I don’t think our ladies will be as susceptible to it the next time. I look for a straightforward approach for both teams each of which will try to do what they do best. The key will be what it always is, effective defense on the shooters.

UConn has been playing more zone this season. I expect that to be the case in this game.

doing a box and one variation admits the other team has a player better than anyone on yours.

Just noticed that attendance in Hartford was 12,415 for the much more important Baylor game. Seems odd that this game against Tennessee that nobody up there cares about has already outsold that game in which the #1 ranking was at stake. Hmmmm.
I don't care what anybody thinks IMO a game between these 2 programs will always be relevant more than any other WCBB game ever! It changed the way WBB was portrayed as! Peoples opinions were going from it's only womens basketball to these girls are pretty good! Lets check it out! Tennessee and Connecticut were must see TV! JANUARY 16, 1995 there were 135 press credentials handed out for the game! By 2004 these 2 programs established a single game attendance record of over 29,000 people! This game will always be relevant! Kelly will bring her team back to being in the top ten on a consistent basis! If anybody says this game isnt relevant dont know the history are just kidding themselves.

I think any team playing UConn this year would be wise to rotate in some zone D occasionally. it seems to bother this group more than man.
Defend the 3 if Uconn struggles with those like they have at times this year. It will benefit Tennessee.

Almost put this in a new thread.

Just saw an interview from today with Megan Walker in which she was asked about "the rivalry."

One thing she said toward the end was that the team was "playing for Evina" in this game. She mentioned how much Westbrook was looking forward to it and how Westbrook's mom and family were coming in for the game.

Pretty much says how she and her family feel toward Tennessee.

IMO their dislike for Tennessee is the expected reaction for any player and family that transfers under unhappy circumstances. No biggie.

But what I’m actually really happy about in regard to the Westbrook family making the trip for the game is that it will give Kellie Harper an opportunity to give big hugs to them all for the small role they played in landing her the sweetest job in women’s college basketball. And I hope all our players give Evina an extra-warm greeting as well, ‘cause while Evina did NOT call for a coaching change, “the interview” did at least help ease the way for it, and that has truly benefited our team. :)

Something tells me there won’t be any hugs coming Miss Evina’s way from our players...

I knew the connies wouldn't take long to show up

Bring it, punk!
I am still backing the Lady Vol. The Lady Vols had a tight game against Alabama, however, UCONN had a difficult time with Memphis and UCF. To throw in the towel before your team hits the floor is awful. Give the Ladies a chance and see how things play out.

Yes!

Hoping the Lady Vols thank all of the fans who fly in to witness our victory along with old friends who have relocated.

Maybe serenade them with Auld Lang Syne on the way out of the arena.

they have 2 players shooting over 40% on 3's, one shooting over 50% and one that shoots 39% after starting the year 0-11. So Ya, they struggle from 3

How did that work out against Baylor? One of those players is Irwin. How many 3s has she taken this year maybe 25? She is your player over 50%! Not even 2 shots a game. Uconn has shot over 40% from 3 in only 7 games this year with 3 right at 40%! They shot 30% against Baylor by the way!
