Control Of House 2022

Trump-backed Mooney wins GOP House race primary in West Virginia: AP

Rep. Alex Mooney is projected by the Associated Press as the winner in the GOP congressional primary in West Virginia’s 2nd District in a battle with fellow Republican Rep. David McKinley.

And while former President Donald Trump wasn’t on the ballot, his prestige within the GOP was very much on the line in a bitter contest between two incumbent lawmakers, as Trump had endorsed Mooney.

West Virginia lost a congressional seat during the once-in-a-decade congressional reapportionment, and Mooney and McKinley were drawn into the state’s newly refigured 2nd District.

Mooney has repeatedly attacked McKinley for voting in favor of the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law – one of President Biden’s domestic achievements, which will bring plenty of federal dollars to West Virginia, a state badly in need of infrastructure improvements. And Mooney targets McKinley for supporting the Democratic-controlled House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by right-wing extremists aiming to disrupt congressional certification of Biden’s Electoral College victory over Trump.

"Mooney opposed Trump's wall four times; opposed Trump's plan to ban fentanyl from China; opposed Trump's plan for veterans," the moderator in McKinley's spot claims.

GOP Primary Turnout suggests Red Wave in November midterms

Republican primary voters showed up in droves to take part in Tuesday’s contests, a good early sign for GOP hopes to regain the House and Senate this fall.

As of midday Wednesday, Republican voters made up 54.9% of the turnout in Idaho, Kentucky, North Carolina, Oregon and Pennsylvania, according to data compiled by JMC Analytics & Polling.

That figure jumps to 60.9% of turnout when all 10 states that have held primaries so far this year are included.

“In every state where I’ve been measuring turnout changes relative to previous midterms, I’m seeing a clear advantage on the Republican side,” JMC Analytics founder John Couvillon told The Post, adding that the picture was the exact opposite in 2018, when Democrats took control of the House with a net gain of 41 seats.

AOC-backed Summer Lee wins Pennsylvania Democratic primary for US House

Summer Lee has been endorsed by progressive lawmaker such as Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. as well as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.

Pennsylvania progressive Democrat Summer Lee has been declared the winner of the 12th Congressional District Democratic primary, beating state Rep. Steve Irwin, who is considered an establishment Democrat.

Lee narrowly beat Irwin, and was 737 votes ahead of him as of Friday night.

Lee, who is also a Pennsylvania state Representative, is now considered the favorite to win in the upcoming general election for the U.S. House of Representatives seat.

She has endorsed far-left progressive policies in the past, such as redistributing wealth, abolishing the "carceral state," and reparations.

Justice Democrats-endorsed New York candidate drops out of race due to redistricting

The AOC-endorsed candidate said New York congressional maps diluted minority votes

A progressive Democrat backed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has dropped out of her congressional race, blaming redistricting for denying communities of color an "opportunity for representation."

Rana Abdelhamid, a Brooklyn-based Muslim activist who was backed by Justice Democrats and supports "Medicare-for-all" and the Green New Deal, announced Tuesday that she was formally withdrawing from the election "because my community and I were cut out of our district."

DCCC Adds Four Members to Incumbent Protection Program as 2022 red wave builds

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee added four members to its Frontline incumbent protection program on Tuesday, allocating additional resources to safeguarding these lawmakers as Democrats seek to maintain or grow their House majority in a midterm election cycle currently projected to favor Republicans.

The committee also placed 11 candidates in its Red to Blue program, designated for challengers to incumbent Republicans or candidates for a soon-to-be-open seat currently held by a Republican.

South Carolina Election tonight.

Next door in the 7th District, though, another anti-Trump Republican looks like he’s in more trouble. Rep. Tom Rice was one of the more anonymous members of the House GOP caucus before Jan. 13, 2021, when he shockingly voted to impeach Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 riot. (The vote came so far out of left field that some observers initially thought it was an error.)

Six other Republicans, all of them ardent Trump defenders, filed to run against Rice, and initially the field was quite muddled — Rice wasn’t polling great, but neither was anyone else. But in February, Trump tapped state Rep. Russell Fry as his preferred candidate, and Fry shot up in the polls. According to another Trafalgar Group poll, also conducted May 26-29, Fry entered the home stretch with 42 percent support to Rice’s 25 percent.

Send Trump money, you win.

I get it on this issue but I do think its healthy that we all shouldn't get caught up in group think. But I get this is part of the polarization in politics.
This stuff is fairly clear. We have a plain English Constitution written about it. If you stand against it, goodbye.

Has nothing to do with polarization or groupthink.
