Thought I'd heard UT is the only program in the country never to lose 8 games in a season. Thanks to Rich Rod for taking Michigan down.

We may never have had an 8 loss season but we've really been pushing the envelope the last 4 years

I wonder if they put that stat up there because they think we might ruin that stat this year? Always a conspiracy theory from us VOLS. Lol

I would trade that stat any day for a guarantee we would never have to sit through another string of 3 consecutive 5-7 seasons.

True. It's a very odd stat because it's not about what the team has accomplished but what it hasn't lost.

Would you trade resumes with a team that has (2) 8+ loss seasons but they have 3 national titles in this century or a string of 5-7 seasons?

It's not a stat to brag about.

Damn, man. I'm sure you're a nice a person in real life. But will you PLEASE quit pissing on every post that is remotely positive? There's enough crap to feel bad about without you doing this as often as you can.

What exactly is positive about that stat? There is nothing even remotely positive about this stat as the focus is on losing! I'd rather focus on winning and what UT has won.

It's as if you're saying losing 7 games is acceptable because UT has never lost 8. Hint...losing 7 still stinks.

I'll ask this question again, since 2000 would you rather have seen UT win a couple of SEC titles and maybe a national title or 2 but there would have been a 4-8 or 3-9 season sprinkled in there OR have the record UT has had since 2000?

99.999999999999999% of the people would take the hardware.

I like the stat we are the last team to have held opponents to zero points for a season.

That's a positive stat and I agree with you. I remember playing middle school football back in the 80's and our coach would tell stories about the UT teams from the late 30's and on. As I look back that was pretty cool. That and Chris Wampler was one our assistant coaches.

Don't ask me why, but I had you pegged as a lot older than that.

Also, that "don't be that team that is the first to lose 8 games in the history of the program" is potentially a strong rallying point.

It may not mean anything to you. That's fine. I think it's something to be proud of UT for. People have different likes, you don't always have to kick down the door and demand everyone wallow in misery with you.

I agree with you that it can be a rallying point. I don't think I would want to look back on my UT playing career and have that be one of the accomplishments that I remembered. I would want to focus on the wins, not the losses.

All I'm saying is that it's really nothing to brag about. Tell you what, the next time you're in a group of people talking football, I'm talking LSU, UF, Bama, USC, Michigan, Ohio State fans, I want you to pull this stat out. Tell me the looks you get.

I've been a fan for as long as I remember and this was never brought up until fairly recently. I NEVER heard in the 80's or 90's. Someone on here, maybe bamawriter, asked an Ohio State fan if they were aware that OSU had never lost 8 games in a season and the answer was no. Granted that's a small sample size, but it's just not that important in the grand scheme of things.

I'm just glad that Dools didn't ruin this for us...even though he got really close.
